Ele vs Enh for PvPFollow

#1 Jul 20 2009 at 7:42 AM Rating: Decent
Ive played all three shaman specs, for both PvE and PvP. I used to enjoy Ehnance PvP a lot. Ive spent sometime building a decent Enhance PvP set. The problem im seeing with enhance in PvP now, is that even with 20k hp over 600 resil and 3400 ap I die fast. with my ele pve spec and gear I sit around 13k hp and 1800 sp, I die in 3 to 4 hits, but it seems like I can usually kill 2 or 3 people before I die. With enhance im lucky to kill 1 target.

I guess my question is should I stick with enhance and finish getting a full purple set, or should I just set it aside and work on an ele set? I cant decide for myself since I enjoy both specs equally, and i know its hard to compare them when 1 spec has supierior gear.

I ended up making the decision to keep enhance for PvP, since I only have to upgrade my bracers chest and cape now. Maybe after I finish that set I'll start seriously working on my ele set.

Which brings me to a new question. Im currently using Pride/Greed both with +50 ap on them. Im wondering if i should stick with those enchants, or if I should switch to mongoose on both. I know mongoose is great in PvE, but is it just as good in PvP? Is a constant 100ap better than a possible 120 agi/haste? On a side note Ive been playing with gems too. Would i want to gem for AP or Agi? I feel my ap is low, but im not sure if straight ap is the way to gem.

I havent done an arena since lvl 70 and im looking forward to starting them again soon. But Im feeling like a noob all over again, so Im trying to be as prepared as possible before I go in. Any info, suggestions or opinions are greatly appreciated.

Here is my armory for better analysis.

I just started as a enh shaman in 2vs2 as well. I grouped with a rl friend of mine who plays a resto druid. Not a comp you'll see often considering most ppl tend to group up with a ret, rogue or disc priest for burst / magic dispell. Still with a minimal 300 resi or so we managed to get to 1000 in 2 days.

Your spec
I think your spec could do with a few tweaks here and there.

This is the spec and glyps I'm currently using.

In comparison with your current build and why I specced for other talents:

You definately want the Earth's grasp one. The extra range on earthbind is not only good for offensive times but also, combined with 'earthen power' for defensive times.

I haven't specced for anticipation. Mostly because I really need the talents at other places.

Because of 'earthenpower' the only reason you want toughness is because of the 10% stam increase. Which, in my opinion, is only good for when you're lacking enough PvP gear.

Elemental Fury is god awesome. It affects all your shocks, bolts and even your lava lash. It's one of the most important differences between our builds.

Elemental Devastation is, now hit also affects spel hit and same accounts for crit, really useful.

A lowered cd on Grounding Totem by 2 secs is pretty helpful in situations. But because i have 4 PvP items now I tend to hope that bonus is enough. But, if u're lacking survivability against caster teams speccing for this may be a good idea.

The stun of firenova totem saved my live tons of times. I use hex mostly for offensive times and having an extra 2 secs stun after it's worn off is amazing.

Glyphs
I see you have the lava lash glyph. In arena I don't have FT on my OH. I use frostbrand. Not only because that way i won't have to use frostshock in close combat but also because with the talent (which u've picked as well) the extra damage is quite nice.

Seeing as you have the talent it looks like you went for the frost nova trick Frostshock has then. In my arena matches so far (mind you, i just started and my rating isn't very great yet) I rarely find a time to use Lava Lash. Just as in PvE, it's one of the last abilities you want to use if you're dealing dmg.

I would say that glyph is useless. The stoneclaw totem is far superior. It's like a healthpot of 4k every X seconds.

Also, the feral spirit glyph is way better in pvp then the stormstrike if you ask me. They're one of our best PvP abilities and making them better makes therefor a lot of sense.

ap vs agility
I used AP all the way. Mostly because wolves scale with AP. the more ap the more damage they do. the more damage they do the more you will get healed for.

mongoose
Beserker is way better then mongoose. Since this is only my offspec I haven't bothered getting beserker yet. I've got one enchanted with mongoose and the other with 65 ap.

relic
Totem of hex is better then the splintering one. I suggest you use it (you probably have it considering elemental is your other spec.

spell penetration
Because your important interrupt or cc abilities are spells you need spell penetration so the chance of it to miss is considerably lower. I have 75 spell penetration at the moment. It just enough for the druid buff and almost enough for the mage static one. It's only 2 gems and a cloak enchant so it's pretty easy obtaineable.

That would be all for now I guess.
