I'm still fairly new to the destruction tree and have never tried the affliction tree. Dual spec'd with demonology and the other being destruction. With destruction, I can usually hit around 2-3k dps in OS fairly easy. Haven't taken my demonology spec into a raid in ages, so not sure of it's dps in a raid.
Anyway... I honestly don't know much about destruction or affliction, but have been reading up on the two lately. It seems that destruction is more of a pvp tree and affliction is the highest dps tree for raids, according to what I've read. Is this true?
What is the preferred highest dps spec for raids?
And yes, I know dps is effected by rotation and player skill/knowledge of the class/spec.

'tisn't true. currently destruction (3/13/55 and 0/13/58 depending on your hit rate) is the top dps spec (there are a few bosses where affliction does better... but that's not due to dps, that's due to the boss mechanics favouring dots). come the next patch it's tough to say which'll be better.. but in my opinion destruction will still top it.
I've checked out your armory link.. 2-3k dps in OS (i presume you mean on the bosses) is quite low for your gear. you've got the hit rating (if you have a shadow priest/moonkin in the raid... if not stick with the spec you are) which means you can go 0/13/58 spec (check my signature for it, click taoquitok, also copy the glyphs).. but anyways, you should be doing more dps with that spec and gear.. 3-4k dps.
here's the quick questions
1. do you use corruption? if so, DON'T.. the only time you should ever cast it is if you're moving, but not before lifetapping (it's always best to lifetap while moving, means you can spend more time dpsing while standing still)
2. do you use CoA or CoD? 'cos you should be using CoD
3. CoD >immolate > conflagorate > chaosbolt > incinerate this is the spell priority list.. you need to make sure that conflag and chaosbolt go on cooldown as soon as they come off it. don't think "i'll wait until after i renew immolate so i don't 'waste' a backdraft charge on casting immolate" because it's NOT a waste casting immolate on a backdraft charge
4. if you're doing all the above and still getting 2-3k dps... it could be any of these reasons
i) you lifetap to much
ii) you're inefficient in your spell casting choices
iii) your internet connection/ pc suck really really bad

I flip between Affliction and Destro depending on the boss fight. Like Jenova said some boss fight will go in the favor of affliction.
Destro is pretty gear dependent. Haste is your best friend in both specs but more so in Destro. Play against a dummy for a while and get your rotations memorized for both specs then try them during the raids. The DPS between the two will be pretty close but destro will normally come out on top.

My dps peaked around 3.2k.

Jenova - I've respec'd my destruction to what you have yours as. Also going to get the same major glyphs, which I already had all, except for the glyph of immolate. Once I get that, I should see more of an improvement on my dps.

just to let you know, my spec relies on having the 3% hit debuff on the boss and 14% hit from gear (if you're hit rating is between 13 and 14%, having a draenai in your group too)
I'm Horde, so no draenai are in my groups.

nice, then you just need to get a little bit more hit.. 15-16 hit rating to be precise so 2x 8hit+9sp gems would do it
I am not a Warlock but I do have a bit of advice anyhow.
I looked at Curse of Doom(CoD? I hope so). The damage from it is 7300 over 1 min (not sure if your SP or anything boosts it so you can add to that) but that comes down to 121.7 DPS. Not bad, however if you are the only Lock(which is WAY too often I think) Curse of Elements is going to absolutely stomp that in raid boosts.
I guess it's the Mage in me, but while Locks do INSANE DPS, as do Shammies (when both are well geared) I look at both as raid DPS, not solo DPS. A Shaman, naked, adds more benefit to a Raid than a medium geared anything else because of Totems and Heroism.
A Lock giving Curse of the Elements effectively increases all caster DPS by a huge amount. -all res by 165, AND increases dmg by 13%. If you have 1 mage, that increases DPS of raid overall by over 500 for that ONE person. Now factor in every caster and add it up. We LOVE your Curse of the Elements and I don't see a solid DPS spell outdoing the raid benefit of CotE.
If you have another lock though, make them do it :D

all warlocks already know that, also something else you should know is that unholy DKs and Moonkins can provide the same debuff as Curse of Elements but without any solo DPS loss.. so pretty much in any 25man raid there will be at least 1 unholy DK or moonkin, so CoD > CoE

Must be nice O.o I usually have 1-2 DK's in a Raid if any, and one or both are Blood or Frost.
As for Boomkin.. I think I have raided with them ~10% of the time.
So yeah, if no Boomkin or DK that is Unholy, CoE wins. If you have those, then sure CoD :D
we pretty much always have a moonkin and on the odd occasion he's not there one of our numerous DKs can take over for the 13% spell damage bonus. sadly my guild will soon need to try and replace me (i'm moving to Japan for a year, so almost impossible to raid on an EU server from there).. which'll be fun for them... loosing their top dps and leaving them with only 1 warlock.. 'tis big shoes the next lock has to fill... hehe. sucks though, i'm gonna miss out on so much content :(
