Aethien and Isyris... I rolled a hunter because of you.

Why are hunters so much fun to level?

Want to know something funny?

I hated leveling my hunter.
Pretty close to every minute of it.

I loved leveling my Hunter, the not-so-fun bit is raiding with her. Heroics are a blast, though.

I think part of it is that it never really feels like you're alone, because you've got a huge ferocious ball of fur or feathers following you around and making all those mouthy melee mobs pay for crossing you. I know I tend to get pretty attached to my pets, and most of them have personalities and backgrounds of their own.

Plus I still totally love Pokemon, so....

Anyway. How's it going for you so far?

I love my pets, mostly Howwle (my white wolf, named after a friend who quit wow) Polly (my polar bear, named after the nirvana song) and Cake (my glorious red crab).

I'm not so fond yet of Stormblast (white Chimera for BM PvP, named after the Dimmu Borgir album) and Kiss (white core hound, named after the band because he has over the top spiky armor, is noisy and has it's own fireworks)

The identity of hunter pets is why I like hunters so much more than warlocks I guess.

But leveling a hunter is so tedious (as is pretty much every class though) up to lvl 50 it's shooting arcane every 6 seconds.
From then on until lvl 75ish it's steadyspam and then it's arcane > steadyx3 repeat.
So at lvl 75 it starts getting somewhat kind of fun.

The big advantage is that it's fast.
9 days 10 hours from 1 - 80 with probably about 15 hours spend PvPing to get some gear and break the monotony of leveling.

The real fun for me doesn't start until raiding and arena though.

Yeah, you do kind of have to work to make hunter leveling interesting--lots of red quests and kiting mobs that will chomp you to death if they get into melee can be fun, though. I enjoy it because it gives me a little more opportunity to explore, get myself into potentially sticky situations and not get killed, and actually read the quest text while my pet goes wild. My baby warrior requires a lot more concentration, and I will admit that leveling her is a little more fun, if much less relaxing.

Well the fun part is I leveled my druid 1-80 as balance and my dk as blood to 80. I've leveled my rogue to 70 as combat to 50 and mut from then on all of those were boring. It was either, pew pew from a distance and pray roots doesnt break, smash my axe into this mobs face, or poke this mob a few times from behind. With my hunter I have like 0 down time whatsoever. I was in redridge doing quests and had to go kill mobs up in the northwest corner of the zone and i literally slayed everything on the way and it took less than 5 minutes and I was able to net something like 5k exp from doing it.

Aethien, I am starting to understand how many freaking keybinds you have as a hunter. Level 22 and I already have like near 3 bars filled with crap I used almost constantly.

But I've made it my first goal to treat my aspects like a warrior treats his stances and learn to "stance dance" my aspects. I want to be able to switch to viper the second a mob dies so I can close in onto the next mob regen a decent amount of mana to pop back into hawk and pwn his face and then when all mobs are dead cheetah my way into the next pack of mobs.

Overall its just the change that a hunter is brining to my basic game play that I'm enjoying. I have a caster, and a melee and now a pet class.

Wait till you get BW, then you can go switch to aspect of the beast while it's up. ;)

I loved leveling my hunter. I did it when the old world still had hard mobs and quests, and being able to solo those was a lot of work and a lot of fun. Glad you joined us Arex.

In all honesty, it's probably easiest and just as fast to just sit in hawk until you run out of mana and then sit in viper until you're full. If you want to optimize it though, I would use a macro something like this

/petattack [nomodifier:shift]
/petpassive [modifier:shift]
/cast [nomodifier:shift] aspect of the hawk
/cast [modifier:shift] aspect of the viper

I actually use a similar macro without the aspects just to control my pet. It's nice to have one key that will call or send your pet.

I use a different macro to manage all my aspects, because in raiding, you obviously don't want to have to recall your pet when you go into viper, or vise versa.

Good luck!

The only part i really hate about leveling is when you get ganked by a hordie hiding right where you needed to get or kill something, and the leveling part for the pets. I am running 4 separate pets, and when i havent used one for a while, it comes in 5 levels lower then yourself and you have to level it up yourself, which goes pretty fast when your questing. When you are in instances, though your pet levels very slow if not at all.

Well he's at level 23 so far and I'm absolutely loving the tenacity pets.

I'm wondering how long I'll be able to keep his name... Bowjobsyeah

The odd part about his name is I generally use guns since he's a dwarf.

I have always loved the hunters ability to have fun and it was the first class i felt suited my limited abilities ( to old to remember all the spells ) in playing the game . I will never be great at end game with my hunter at least not in instances/raids as i just cannot think fast enough for that plus i hate anywhere inside with my hunter.

BUT i find hunters so relaxing in farming green mobs as i usually set my pet into full attack mode , and if you have never tried it you are missing a fun way to play , its so unpredictable i know but when your pet attacks a mob and you assist you then loot mob and then find the mob your pet is attacking now and you almost never get aggro as the pet has half killed the mob before you start shooting , it takes a little while to get used to it and sometimes you will have to control the pet but that is all a part of the fun for me and believe me when you pick the right mobs its an endless orgy of kill/loot and usually i have to stop my pet at times just so i can catch up with the looting , you can do it with the same level mobs or slightly higher but that needs practice on the green mobs first.

I guess i do role play a little with my pets as i prefer them to do what a natural semi wild pet would be doing so having them on aggressive works well for me , and its surprising just how many blue items i have looted off of trash mobs i would not even have bothered with . Yes it takes longer to do quests but i think the added exp from all the dead mobs outweighs the slower questing and the extra gold is always useful.

I'll probably start using the pet on aggressive once I pick up Rapid Recup, level 46 I think?

I'm literally about to ding 39 and leveling as marks is ******* awesome.

Critting aimed shot for 600 with rapid killing is making me <3 das hunter.

Oh, and I'm in an 1850 rated 2v2 right now.
I managed to pick up a good druid... don't ask me why he agreed to play with a badly geared hunter.
