Prot Imperative Addons?Follow

Was curious on required addons for Prot. I know DBM is amazing and I love it.
Aside that, anything vital? I believe I heard of one that can mark for you but I am unsure names.

Omen is useful, and allows you to see if you're on your threat rotation. Probably the closest you have to another "required" addon.

I personally <3 ErrorMonster, helps reduce visual clutter on the screen.

VisualHeal is very nice if your healers have it - lets you see how much HP is coming down the pipe at you (which can be useful in deciding, "Hmm, should I pop a CD?")

Recount / WWS can be very useful as a method of troubleshooting boss fights in a progression, less important in 5-mans.

There are plenty more out there, and of course a good UI is extremely important as a tank too.

There are a couple out there that allow you to /rw, /raid, /s when your blowing cooldowns to warn the raid but nothing is required except for the usual raid addons that Tabstopper and yourself have already spoken about.

Edit. I tend to use DBM, Omen and Recount. The first two I would say should be standard procedure for whatever spec or class your going in with. Tankadin or Tankbuddy are a couple others you might want to look at.

Nobody here yet has mentioned QuickMark.

it is glitched to always be Out-of-Date, so you have to load OoD addons, but once you get it working, it really cuts down the time spent marking mobs.

Less time marking mobs = faster pulls = less chance some impatient prick in the group is going to complain.

If you're a starting tank, you might not have the gear to pull with impunity, and might want a CC or two to be on the safe side, and/or want the DPS focusing on mobs, as not everyone is smart enough to use /assist.

Either way, Quick Mark really makes marking, well, uh, quick.

Quickmark is nice, though I personally just keybind my commonly used marks.

- (skull)
= (cross)
[ (star)
] (moon)
\ (circle)

Also allows me to quickly mark during a battle, in the few cases where that might be needed.

Awesome thanks!
I enjoy chain pulling, as it keeps Divine Plea up indefinitely making me have infinite MP. I honestly never dip below 80% no matter what spells I use as long as it is up.
Last night in H HoL I pulled a group of 3 of the Dwarves, then Mage aggro'd pat of the Sentinels and healer backed into another group of 2 dwarves 1 sentinel. I Righteous Defensed the healer, Shielded the oncoming sentinels and dropped a conc, got all mobs on me with no deaths.

I honestly think Prot Pally is the most fun thing I have ever played in terms of excitement. I do not look forward to raiding as the stress+lag is going to be tough but I will figure it out.

As for setting marks to specific keys.. how? That would be amazing for aforementioned situation on ketting things down (fortunately we were AoE heavy).

Also VERY important question I forgot to ask...

Is there a list of boss strats out there for tanks only? I know all fights in all areas aside 3 bosses in Uld (Freya and the two others who aren't Hodir in that group) but only as ranged DPS.
I know, for example, Ignis you can stand in Pool if DPS is crazy or kite in square, I know Anub you tank by the door... but that's it. I have no idea for most heroics or raids how to tank any of the tricky bosses.

*edit*
I looked at maintankadin for strats and they were bad, all old and saying AN is hardest heroic lol.

Checking tankspot, I am again blinded by War tanking guides over pally ones :/

Despite the fact that Tankspot is definitely "Warrior bias" I personally have found their videos to be very helpful for strats. They are very detailed, giving more than just info for tanks, but the rest of the raid too. There's not really a whole lot I have seen in their videos that, as far as tanks are concerned, is "Warrior only", but much of it can be adapted if need be to fit a Paladin tank.

As far as addons, I just echo that of the posters above me, and add that every Paladin should have PallyPower. As mentioned Tankadin is great, Omen (if you really need it, I haven't even looked at it in months), and TankPoints is good for calculating stats when deciding whether or not to swap out a piece of gear (has kept me from wasting money and going under Defense cap a number of times).

Not sure you really need an addon to quickly mark mobs, but to tell the truth until reading this post, I didn't even know one existed :) I just have all the raid marks bound to my number pad on the right side of my keyboard, with the 3 being bound to remove a mark.

Thanks a lot! I figured out the key binding(took a while to find an easy access key with no other links).
I currently use RatingBuster, how useful is TankPoints to that?

lol, ty Loki ;)

As for RatingBuster: I'm gonna have to defer to someone else who has used that add on. I'm taking a little break from the game or I'd go check it out myself and report back =/ Hopefully someone has used it and can answer your question :)

the most important are pallypower and DBM,
<<from my point of view omen is optional, paladins should not lose agro, ever. if you do and it's your fault, you're doing something wrong. if it's dps who's taking the mobs from you, save him once, save him twice, then let him die by the standard rule "you taunt it, you tank it" >>
as for other optional addons : tankadin is ok for overviewing your stats and don't forget rating buster , wich every player should have, no matter the class and spec

There's probably better options out there, but I also use Healbot for raid 25-mans tanking.

I simply bind RD, DP, HoS and the such to Healbot, so that whenever I see someone picking aggro I simply click on his name on Healbot and RD does the rest.

Like I say, there might be better alternatives out there, but I don't really know them.

For HCs or 10 mans, Pallypower and DBM should suffice. Omen I'd recommend too, even though it's hard to not get aggro as a pallytank.

I like this idea. In fact, it's the same solution as raid healing, so any of the (basically equivalent) answers - a resizable raid frame (Grid, Healbot, XPerl, etc.) combined with a selection system (Clique, mouseover macros, etc.) will work. The important thing is maximum relevant information taking up minimum screen space. Especially for tanks, who don't need as much detail as healers do.

For similar reasons, I keep Grid up when I'm DPSing as ret, since we have so many utility abilities (AoW heals, DS/DG, our weak CC option) that it's useful to have a capsule picture of raidwide damage and who has aggro.
