lol mage stuff in 3.2Follow

#1 Jun 23 2009 at 1:54 PM Rating: Good
Terribad set bonuses:

Mage
Mage T9 2P Bonus (Class: Mage) -- Increases the armor you gain from Ice Armor by 20%, the mana regeneration you gain from Mage Armor by 10%, and converts an additional 25% of your spirit into critical strike rating when Molten Armor is active.
Mage T9 4P Bonus (Fireball, Frostbolt, Frostfire Bolt, and Arcane Blast) (Class: Mage) -- Increases the critical strike chance of your Fireball, Frostbolt, Frostfire Bolt, and Arcane Blast spells by 5%.

and spell changes:

Mage (3.1 Skills List / 3.1 Talent + Glyph Calc.)
Arcane
Arcane Blast now uses 7% of base mana. (Down from 8% of base mana)
Slow Fall now only works on friendly party or raid target.

Fire
Molten Armor now causes 75/150 Fire damage (down from 170/170)
Burnout now increases the spell's cost on non-periodic spell criticals instead of all criticals.
Hot Streak now proc Any time you score 2 non-periodic spell crit.
Empowered Fire has a new effect - In addition, each time your Ignite talent causes damage, you have a 33/67/100% chance to regain 2% of your base mana.
Ignite now proc from non-periodic critical strikes instead of all critical strikes.

Frost
Enduring Winter now cannot occur more often than once every 6 sec.

quite meh. I guess it has the CHANCE of fixing a TINY bit of ignite munching.

for hotstreak, that means that u can get 2 crits not right after each other and get it right?
#3 Jun 23 2009 at 5:50 PM Rating: Good
I believe it means Ignite and Living Bomb will not count for anything. Hence "periodic" meant "DoT".

That's my take.

Overall crappy update for Fire.

As for the set bonuses, I'm not particularly impressed. I LOVE the 2pc bonuses of T7 (majorly needed as Arcane) and T8 (free SP is free SP, and it's not a small amount). 4pc for T7 is crap but T8 is amazing that you can get multiple uses out of Hotstreak/Missiles/Winter.

T9 I'm not wow'd by but I do like the 25% more spirit for crit and 5% more crit on main spells. As it stands right now I run 64% crit on Arcane Blast.

sadly all it relaly does is revert us back to pre-3.1 (except a bit more crit from molten armor). I wonder if they are getting rid of crit from some of the gear.

With all this crit available from the set, I wouldn't mind seeing the set itself focus on some Haste and Spirit.

It appears I may have over-reacted as to thinking that they were bad set bonuses. I still see them to be that way, but a lot of people on EJ say that the 2pc is pretty good.... we will see.

Well, with no buffs(other than Molten Armor, naturally), you'd gain ~125 crit rating all the time as opposed to 350 SP for 15s of every what, 45s? It's definitely not bad by any means, especially since it allows you to focus even more on non crit stats elsewhere on your gear.

current confirmed "bug" that isn't a bug right now on PTR is that LB can be applied multiple times

Meaning to different targets? Or multiple times to one target? Because the former would be an awesome change(especially for PvP). The latter could just get silly in PvP.

Multi-target, my fault.

I think this will bring back my old fun days when I did AVs with my warlock and spammed SoC to a level of silliness. But now, with fire!

maybe, as long as the guys still last 12 seconds. That and the health differential with the explosions is a good bit lower than with SoC (SoC hit for a larget % of HP on average). That and LB is more balanced for single target dps. Although it does have the benefit (at least right now) if blowing up if dispelled.

Shall we see more?!

Fire

* Living Bomb can now be used on multiple targets at the same time.

Frost

* Ice Barrier mana cost has been reduced from 25% of base mana to 21% of base mana.
* Cone of Cold mana cost has been reduced from 29% of base mana to 25% of base mana.
* Frost Ward mana cost has been reduced from 16% of base mana to 14% of base mana.
* Frostbolt mana cost has been reduced from 13% of base mana to 11% of base mana.
* Ice Armor mana cost has been reduced from 28% of base mana to 24% of base mana.
* Ice Lance mana cost has been reduced from 7% of base mana to 6% of base mana.
* Frost Nova mana cost has been reduced from 8% of base mana to 7% of base mana.
* Empowered Frostbolt now reduces the cast time of your Frostbolt by 0.1/0.2sec instead of increasing its critical strike chance by 2/4%.
* Permafrost now also reduces the target's healing received by 7/13/20%.

Bolded the important ones for importance.

1) That could be an improvement of our AoE dps as long as the mob stays alve for 12 seconds or more (lol, k.)

2) Empowered frostbolt change... not exactly sure why that is a good thing, frost has notoriously low crit in the first place.

3) Mages now have an MS -- lol who would have seen this day coming.

Multiple living bombs!?!? That will be hella fun in BG's. If Blizzard would shorten the cast time and improve the distance of fireblast being a fire mage in pvp would be even more fun.

Permafrost reducing healing will probably make frost a must have for Arenas, but doing fire in BG's will be fun.
