Mind Flay ResistFollow

So I was leveling my lowbie shadow priest through ashenvale, and I noticed something odd when I started on the quest to kill infernals, lashers and felguards.

Mind Flay kept getting resisted. This didn't happen with any of my other shadow spells, but at least 60% of the time, Mind Flay would be resisted. It got to the point where I was much better off not using it at all, since the constant resists were eating my mana.

The demons in question were my level and up to two levels above me, and I had the +hit% talent filled, but it seemed like that one spell in particular was essentially ineffective on certain mobs.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I cannot remember any one spell single spell being resisted more than others out of a type of magic with my priest but it does not surprise me at all . I guess thats why i like trying all the classes out and trying to do as many areas as possible as it seems each class has spells that get resisted somewhere by just a few mobs that surprise me when it happens , i shall have to check them out again as i do not remember that happening to me on that hill in ashenvale but perhaps as when i did it was a long time ago they may have changed things.

I remember having problems with those mobs, but it has been too long since then to remember correctly if that was Mind Flay only. Very tempted to say that all shadow spells were affected. I think I remember my sister, leveling a warlock at the same time, complaining about similar issues.

I will say that all my spells did less damage to those mobs than to others, but none besides MF were fully resisted

Well, Mind Flay certainly is special since it has both a binary (slow) and non-binary (canneled DOT) component. I can't tell for sure how the roll for MF works, but there is a good chance that the whole thing fails if the binary roll does. This is essentially something where you'd put a friend into major shadow resist gear to find out during some friendly duel nukage.

But it's obvious that those mobs have very high shadow resistance, explaining why other shadow spells do a lot less damage than usual or are even completely resisted.

There are several points where leveling my Shadowpriest, I stopped casting all shadow spells and instead did holy DPS.

It's much less efficient DPS (Speed and Mana-wise) when you're spec'ed shadow, but nothing has holy resist. Keep a holy DPS bar set up for just this occasion.

I think they have different immunities, too. I took my mage through there a while back and one of the mobs was completely immune to fire spells (probably the infernals), while the others were hurt by fire. At the time I recalled that my priest had an extremely difficult time with these mobs. I think they randomly respawn and I wound up having to kill many more of the infernal type to get the lasher respawn.

I don't recall any specific resistances from the priest, just that it required deviating from my normal spells in order to get the kills.
