Yes its nifty in PvP, and yes you can get 11k FoL heals.

But it's a gimmick and the healing output (despite the misleading big fol crits) is terrible, like absolute trash, I did more hps in my SWP gear at 70, or blue gear at 80.

/facepalm

It's not often that I agree completely with what you say, but this is one of those times, so I felt it pertinent to post.

Prot Palys trying to be healers = fail :(

It's less about healing and more about having better CC. The 20 second hammer CDe and the interupt/3s silence are what the spec is supposed to be designed around, better CC to setup kills in arena.

Healing output of all PVP specs is lower then the optimal spec but you make some tradeoffs to pick up some CC or interupt mitigation or whatever else. It's the least popular of the 3 arena specs at least, more then twice as many play either 34/0/37 or 52/19/0 even in 2s. And you'd probably never see this spec in 3s or 5s. It is a gimmick spec but I guess the idea is help your teammate out with a CC chain then land a silence and teammate has a long window for a finisher.

I'd go a step further and apply the rage to any jackass doing PVE with a PVP build.

(I like 32/0/39 or the standard 51/20 for PVP.)

Sounds like Bohdi is encountering people who normally pvp can't be bothered respeccing for pve. I hate how popular this is, especially since i play double dps in 2s and it's basically tailored to take my sh*t apart. You're fighting a pally healer with more hp than an arms warrior. They're impossible to burst down, more so than a hotted resto druid, or a priest with all their cooldowns (ardent defender? As soon as the pallies' hp drops they get an automatic pain supression).

I'm guessing that lacking the mana efficiency stuff in deep holy they aren't going to do well in a prolonged fight against another healer team.

They're not impossible to take down for classes with interupts, they have no instant heals, which = fail in arena

Theres a reason deep holy is like 4-5x more popular then this spec, even in 2s. In every other bracket it's non existant.

Lay of Hands is the most powerful Insta-Heal in the game. It's one time use, granted, but "No Instant Heals" isn't 100% true.

Yeah, but he was talking about arena viability, where if you hit your LoH button it will do nothing but cruelly mock you.

...and then spit on you and dance on your dead body.

Longevity > Big Heals

It doesn't matter how big your heals are if you can only keep it going for a minute or two.

I would much rather end an encounter with everyone alive and my mana pool greater than 0. Than top the "OMG BIGGEST HEAL" meter.

This spec has infinite mana if you melee at all. Obviously purely for pvp I can't conceive of anyone seriously trying this spec in pve.

You can seriously kite them until Divine Plea wears off and then just burn their mana down. Prot pallies have like, what...6k?

You can't run around meleeing and heal at the same time. It's a stupid-*** spec.

Pretty sure they are talking about Prot Spec in Holy Gear. You'd prob still have a mana pool upwards of 20k with that.

15000 mana roughly, maybe a little more if they have a mix of very high tier pve and pvp stuff. The idea of kiting a prot healer around so they can't hit you doesn't really work. All they have to do is melee something, anything (a bloodworm, pet, totem etc etc) and divine plea will be refreshed. Even if it drops off, it's on a measly minute cooldown and there's very likely a DK snaring your *** in one of a variety of ways. Did i mention the deep prot talent which grants it 100% dispell resistence?

And these healers are in high stamina pvp gear with +stamina talents so they have upwards of 26k health, and all that stamina due to another interesting deep prot talent is pushing their spellpower to maybe 2.5k. Add an extra 30% on crit heals and they can basically ignore the healing reduction from divine plea.

I don't want this to seem like i'm whining, it is after all a very shrewd way to play a pvp healer. I'm just pointing out how utterly insurmountable this kind of play is to a double dps team. It is very hard indeed to time silences and interrupts around bubble and aura mastery, and the prot tree gives vast longevity, and 6 second stun on a 20 sec cooldown. Not to mention Avenger's shield! A multiple target silence-snare or a single target nuke-silence-snare depending on glyphs.

Artemis is making me want to try it... ;)

Edited to update: I did try it, just to say I did. I love playing with builds. It's not what I'd call exciting, but it's sort of a nice compromise between deep Holy, which isn't enough mana, and Holy/Ret, whose heals are too small. This takes care of both problems at the expense of Holy Shock, which I missed a lot, and Repentance, which I missed not at all since I could HoJ every 20 seconds. It would take some getting used to before I knew how to use all those Prot buttons right, but the survivability was very nice in Arena, and those huge FoL's and endless mana are pretty fun in BG's and WG.

Summary: fun to try, not sure how long I'll keep it.

I just can't picture running around with divine plea that often. I have fairly high spellpower gear as a holy paladin, my PVP gear is fairly solid as well (http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Firetree&n=Celatha hopefully catch me in my PVP gear), but I just can't picture running around with divine plea up all the time. I can barely use it in a normal arena match. I have to time it with CC, which conviently lasts about 15 seconds max (fear into fear), but they break early all the time, get trinketed, dispelled, tremor totemed, etc.

I wasn't running around with it all the time, TBH with a build where you're casting mainly FoL the mana efficiency was really good without it. But when you need to, Artemis is right that you don't much feel it. I have 2250 spell power with this build, my FoL has something like a 28% crit chance and it's critting for 9-10k, which is a heck of a lot more than I was getting from it before. So having it be reduced isn't a *huge* deal if you're past that initial burst of damage and you're timing it okay.

Edited cause I was watching those crits in WG just now and they're hitting for more than I originally thought.
