Models are up for new Tauren bear forms - Blizzard has decided that these (along with Tauren cat / Night Elf bear and cat forms) will be coming in the next "big" patch (3.2).

New druid forms (official)

Tauren bear pic

Thought you might want to see this, as I know druids have been complaining about the lack of customization of feral forms for a while. :) Enjoy!

This is ******* ********* inc patch 4.0 when my new moonkin forms go live.

Otherwise congrats all you feral druids, blizzard still hates resto/balance druids.

I do hope this also covers... travel forms. >..> They would need to re-colorize at least swift flight (no real changes as it is already a well made model) to match with the colors available to each faction.

My favorite floating candle blue is answering some questions of note.

We also would like to allow gear to affect the visual look of the forms, but this too is something that is going to need additional work in order to get it to work properly and look good.

You'll see the further distinctions between the forms (bear and cat for tauren and night elf) as we go along in the previews.

The models have been updated and the poly count is also increased on them. So this isn't just a simple re-skin.

Of course... the main model to see will be the Tauren cat form...

Tree and Moonkin forms are still something we'd like to do, but it's something for a bit further in the future. We are aware these are things that people would like to see additional customization for.

Indeedly Alex, I'm not sure where they are in the line up of druid forms to get "fix/customized" but I'm eager too to see white moonkins and cherry blossom trees. It could be that they figured that since those forms were added in BC that they may be last. :x ::pat, pat:: You're time will come too!

First come first serve.

Plus the default tree/moonkin models are better than the current feral models.

I would hope travel form is next.

Then tree/moon as those forms will be more involved as they will have gear showing I would imagine. If not showing then at least factoring into the appearance.

For one I thought this was amazing, I can finally be a a fearsome bear not just some low re/textured ashen vale bear.

I really hope we get some more customization via Cat Form, but I doubt it......id prolly change my Taurens skin tone just so i can have a white cat so i can be the Ghost of the Battleground.

its gonna be so awesome. i never really cared for the different forms thing that so many druids had a hard-on for, but im excited seeing the pictures. if you figure at least five different form skins per form per race, you're looking at about 70 different forms (30 for each race) between moonkin, bear, cat, travel, tree, water and flight forms. even if flight, travel and water forms arent updated thats still 40 different forms all based on customizeable hair color.

beargasm indeed.

It sounded as if you'd be able to tweak your appearance to get a combination of bear and cat form options you liked.

Careful, we don't want to upset GC. He's already going round and round with moonkins on the damage boards. :-)

I love the new bear models but what i'm more excited about is being able to change my taurens color w/o having to pay 15 bucks to recustomize her Smiley: grin.

Night Elf bear form is up!

I'm still mulling it over, but I like how the ears aren't as massive.

The changes excite me less the more I think about it.

Not 100% loving the nelf models either. The one in the lower right aint bad, I will likely use that one.

The main issue is still a level 40 bear looks like a level 80 bear. All other classes get to show off their gear, we still don't. I guess that is my main complaint.

Better than nothing is how I am thinking of the changes right now.

To me this is a much needed step one to fixing the very basics of our form, which is a revamp of the model itself. Once you have that you can add all sorts of additions, like you need bones before you can pick out which blue jeans you wanna wear tonight. :p

Blizzard has stated that they want to add that much needed difference between pups and old grizzlies but that will take more time to implement and this will certainly tide me over for now. I'm even okay with changes being tied to hair color and color tint.. as it makes sense. Why would that black Tauren turn into a white bear?

I think the easiest thing they could add for now, would be (as hunter pets do) let us grow in size as we level.

As for the models themselves, I actually was disappointed with the bull bears but they are really growing on me. (I think it's the big brown eyes!) and I want to really reserve any judgment till I saw the cats and... well one can't really get the full understanding of a 3D model till you actually see it motion. Do I still flop on my side to sleep? How do I look while swimming? Is the running lope still a little funny looking?

I like this for bear form. Cat not as much.

I also am hoping that this is the first step in showing an actual level of progression in the various druid forms.

Also will we be able to go barber in form and shift while on the chair to check what we will look like in various forms?

I want gear to show up on shoulders, as jewelry, limb adornments and bad a$$ claws or branches.

Did you even look at it? It is not the same model at all.

If by that you mean the exact same model with added polygons here and there, then I agree.

Seriously, it is the same model minus a few details. I assume the animations will be very, very similar to what they are right now.

Overall I like the new looks, but I am also disappointed. Especially since they were all like "Oh we got something going on. We can't say much, but you won't be disappointed! Oooh no!" Yeah right.

I'm not one who cares much for seeing gear while in forms (especially if badly implemented), for the record. I was just expecting more customization. Like individually choose the color of the tattoos, which accessories I wanted to display, like have 3 slots and then have to choose what you want on your bear or something, in a barbershop-style interface.

Still, can't wait for those changes to roll so I can stop using DoA. Also really, really can't wait to see the Cat forms, Tauren in particular for obvious reasons.

To Clarify since obviously people are taking it at face value

The changes they made are almost minor considering the options they had available to them.

Do I welcome the changes in any incarnation? Yes.

Do I wish they would have put more into it? Yes.

Do I think they can and should do more in the future? Definitely.
#21 May 28 2009 at 7:51 AM Rating: Excellent
There's not a lot more they can do without a ton of overhead...they can't really change the basic framework of the model, nor how it behaves. Increasing poly count goes a long way to improving the overall look and feel, more than these still images tell. I'm pretty confident we can expect our characters to 'fold' less and actually move and flex limbs properly, plus the texture changes.

It's not like this changes in any way how we play the game anyhow. It's a bone blizzard is throwing our way, and I'll take whatever I can get in that regard. They get enough complaints about actual things that matter.

I like them - pleasantly surprised that the Horde model is actually the nicer one - now lets see the kitty models.

I just saw the Night Elf Bear form and I am very impressed. Currently, my druid has white hair so I assume by bear form will also be white. Though the white bear looks very cool, I like the dark blue (Or black? I'm semi color blind with blues/purples and darker colors) one with the white mane and stripes. I'm looking forward to what cat form will look like as that will confirm which colors I end up choosing.

Blues mentioned that the Tauren cat form is the next to be shown off and that it had some major work done to it. Congrats all you cows, you deserve this! Ya'lls cat form has looked so horrendous.

EDIT: I really hope they have the forms scale with gear in the future. That is what I really wanted to see happen.

I think that this is merely the first step.

They still will have to do something about: Moonkin, Tree, Travel and possibly Manatee forms. With SeaCow being the one I care the least about as honestly I have maybe spent 4 hours in that form out of some 70+ days played.

For the trees I would like to see different kinds of trees and moonkin just different coloration I guess.

When they do the 2 legged forms I am assuming they will incorporate gear to some extent. I am hoping after they add gear to them they will go back and add gear to the feral forms.

For travel form I would just like a non-placeholder form. Maybe a stag for Nelfs and a Zhevra or something for Tauren.

Epic flight form is fine.

Just my 6¢

As far as two legged forms go, heck, they've already got that developed - the lion in Kara.

I forget this, refresh me please.

I meant tree and boom as the 2 leggers.

This Kara lion intrigues me though.

Damn senility.
