Scorch and Improved ShadowboltFollow

As you've probably noticed recently (sometime after 3.1 though I don't run with a warlock often so I cant be sure when exactly) Blizz did a stealth nerf (not in any patch notes as far as ive seen) so that the scorch debuff is overridden by Shadow Mastery, the debuff given by Improved Shadowbolt (warlock tier 1 Destruction talent).

Basically a QQ post, I find it annoying beyond all means. If theres a warlock with it in the raid, we have to depend on him/her to keep it up at all times, which might not happen, depending on the warlock's skills. If I see it drops off and I rush to get a scorch, it might live a few seconds then get eaten again by SM, which will again drop after a while if the warlock is slacking. Dps loss all around.
Argh!

I'm more annoyed that the warlock talent is so far superior to the mage version. Some specs of warlocks cast shadowbolts quite often anyways, and now it only takes 1 cast to put on the debuff whereas we have to cast 5 times (or once if we give up a valuable glyph spot) and the spell we are forced to cast for it is a relatively low dps spell... I just hope to have a warlock with the talent in my raids and don't worry about it.

I know what you mean by that. Our RL is demo/destruction and puts up the shadowbolt debuff for us. For the most part it stays up at all times (which is great) although it takes him about 5 seconds to get it up first at the beginning which by then I have already gotten 2 fireballs off or a living bomb + a couple of fireballs. Oh well, not too much to complain about. I haven't glyphed for imp scorch since 3.1 came out. If we have to scorch myself and another fireball mage split it (I do 2, he does 3).

I'm stuck scorching in 10 mans(no locks, and only me as a mage), so I've been thinking I'm gonna carry around a ton of Scorch and LB glyphs to switch between when doing 10 mans and 25 mans.

According to some various TC stuff, living bomb is the best dps glyph that you have. You may be better off dropping fireball (or frostfire, whichever you are) for imp scorch.

edit: or just suck it up and scorch a few more times :-p and keep all of the good dps there.

But I hates it. Smiley: frown

Certain fights it's not a big deal, but I really like having it for things like Razorscale's chained phases and Decon's heart phase. And I especially like it for anything with adds.

I'm actually thinking I might take a hybrid solution and run a Deep Fire/Arcane build w/LB glyph for 25 mans and a Frostfire build with Imp Scorch for 10 mans/5 mans/Soloing. Though I might look into dropping the Frostfire glyph for the LB one.
