Tanking on my DKFollow

Well, I finally tanked something on my baby DK.

A mainly blood spec that is mainly for leveling/farming. I know I could do better but as I said it is mainly for farming and I run dungeons when I get bored.

I like the style. Was fun. Putting up diseases spreading them and tabbing through mobs was fairly effective.

Was using Pestilence and BB on AoE pulls to good affect.

The single target rotation was even easier.

Had some loopiness when I would use DnD as then my rotation got a bit off. Also I may let diseases fall off as I hadn't gotten DoTimers set up and still don't.

Also I kept trying to hit Swipe which didn't help. But overall I like the style. Was a pleasant change from druid tanking. More buttons to push is fun for a change of pace.

Yeah. It isn't that complicated and, with the exception of HS, all of our skills will hit everything in range or one target only.

DnD isn't really necessary, ever, I find. When I just ran a reg UP for the CW achievement the other day, a Naxx 25 man Mage and Hunter barely had to hold back their AoE with me as an Unholy spec with Terribad gear. If they gave me 4.5 seconds before they attacked, I had hate the whole time. Bosses it didn't matter, as the taunt was enough for me to build my threat.

Good luck tanking with your DK.^^ I also love it.

blood tanking is awesome. so much self-healing and mitigation that its just nutso. you can solo a great deal of crap as a blood-specced tank in frost presence. get the death strike and disease glpyhs and then profit. the only thing it really lacks in is aoe, but in terms of lasting power and healability i swear to god nothing is better at lower gear levels. it scales quite well too, so its not just a low tier thing.

DnD gets used depending on the situation. For 1-2 target pulls you should never use it. 3+ maybe. It all depends really.
It is great for picking up the runner mobs that go straight for the mages and it helps quite a bit if you need to just get aoe threat on a trash pack of a ton of mobs.
Generally on very trashy things where I'm chain pulling 5+ mobs at a time and never stopping I'm using DnD whenever its up.
DnD -> IT -> PS -> Pest -> BB -> SS -> repeat.
Not counting any RP burns.
It is a lot of aoe damage and its kinda sick as UH.

As frost its more use for picking up the adds and if you want to passively grab a pack. I don't have points in morbidity on my frost tank spec, but i do use it sometimes like when i know a set of adds will be coming out.

As for blood, i just hate blood tanks (no offense) but when i have to heal for them they seem to fail at picking up aoe aggro.

A DnD at the start usually is enough to completely prevent any healer aggro or aoe side aggro. again this is all trash mobs and aoe encounters only.

No offense, but come back later and let us know what you find in heroics and beyond =)

ive never had any problems with aoe as a blood tank. granted i dont have UB which makes aoe tanking rather easy mode (desecration helps a bunch too) but being able to spam 3-5 blood boils in a row every rune rotation does wonders for holding mobs.

DnD to start, then ps+it+pest, death strike when FU comes back up and BB with blood rune. pest again as needed alternating death stike with 3x BB after that.

The opening with DnD on larger pulls is what I was doing the other day. Did some more Coilfang. If I keep tanking to level I will probably learn UB next even though it will further put off learning HS. I could drop out of Unholy to grab HS but I like the mount speed boost as he is mainly a farmer.

Now that I think about it I will get UB as the DK is either farming herbs or tanking. Is that a good idea since it is just 1 point or just keep pushing for HS? I really enjoy Blood so I don't really want to go Unholy but is adding 1 more Unholy just getting silly at this point or would it make a large enough impact to be noticed?

Since I'm a heavy Addon user, I found a very useful addon called DeathKnight.Info Runes. Which has movable bars to represent your primary dots countdowns and your pestilence dot countdowns.

It also has several alternatives to the DK rune bars.

It can be stripped down and modified nicely.

I use a Unit frame is buggy with DK runes to begin with, so I had to find a solution to death runes not showing up properly. And it came with Dot timers.
