dual wield questionFollow

Being able to dual wield now, what would you reccomend to put on your main hand and off hand weapons in various situations? I've been soloing with Windfury on one and Fire on the other. Reccomendations for soloing and grouping (not healing) would be appreciated. thanks. Only level 40 so don't need raid reccomendations.

Does it matter if I have 2 pretty fast weapons equipped?

Until you get Lava Lash at 45, stick with Windfury on both weapons. Once you get Lava Lash I would enchant my main hand weapon with Windfury and my offhand weapon with Flametongue while in instances/groups as this will produce more dps over longer fights. However while questing until you get to much higher levels (60+), using Windfury on both weapons will probably provide more burst damage which is ideal for soloing and PvP. Until you get to level 80 just use whichever combo is most comfortable to you, but once you start raiding at 80 use wf/ft as this provides the largest dps in this type of situation. Use elitistjerks.com as a reference.

As far as weapon speed goes, all shaman damage (melee) is based on top end damage so you want two very slow weapons in both your main and off hand slots. Yes, this means no daggers. Just find two slow axes or maces and use the above advice and you will be blowing stuff up in a matter of seconds.

Good luck with your shaman as it is a great class and by far the most fun I have had leveling in this game yet. Happy Hunting!

Bump
Do any other shammies have any input or did I pretty much sum it up?

Thanks for the input. Using WF on both weapons I'm putting down npc's my level in about 10 seconds. I have pretty fast weapons in each hand- what's the benefit to slower weapons?

Fast weapons should be fine at your level but if you read the tooltips for each of your attacks you will notice that stormstrike, lava lash, and windfury are all based on weapon damage. Slower weapons have higher damage so if you use slower weapons with a larger damage base, your main attacks with hit harder. Also when you start using flametongue on your offhand weapon, you will notice that the damage procced off of each swing is higher when using a slower weapon. Therefore a 2.6-2.8 speed weapon is optimal to fill this slot.

Also using a slower weapon in your offhand will avoid it taking away flurry charges and it will not take away potential windfury procs if you have wf imbued on both weapons. WF has hidden 3 second CD. Also, when you equip a weapon in your off hand, the damage is cut in half. So if your main and offhand weapons are the same (both have the same damage), your off hand will deal on average half of the damage your main hand weapon does. This is the reason you do not want WF to proc off of your off hand, because if it does then the damage will be at most half of the damage that you would deal with a proc off your main hand. Don't worry about not dealing enough white damage with slower weapons. You should be critting constantly so flurry should always be up and with Winfury Totem down you can get a 2.6 speed weapon down to about 2.0 speed fairly easily. Berzerking is nice too if you are a troll and it has a relatively short CD. Sorry for the wall of text but there are just so many benefits to using slow weapons over fast weapons as an enhancement shaman.

Oh yea I forgot to mention a couple of good weapons available for you. When you get the chance try to run Zul'furrak as there are some nice shaman drops there. There are also several from Maradaun but those are mostly mail, cloaks, and rings. You won't be able to run Mara until mid 40's anyways. In Zul'furrak, the first boss is Antu'sul. He drops a [i]very[i]nice mace for a shaman. I currently have it in my offhand as a 49 shaman. Here is the link: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=9639;source=live
Another weapon you can get is from the second to last boss in the instance. I forget his name but he is the one who gives the achievement. He drops and item called Ripsaw. Here is the link: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=9478;source=live
He also drops a leather helm that is better than most mail helms for this level, and I would take it in a heartbeat if there were no rogues or feral druids in the group that wanted it.

I use two axes with speeds of 2.70 each and windfury on each. It's far more powerful in my experience to have two windfury rather than one windfury and one flametongue. That is until you can put points into elemental fury although to max that talent out you will have had to put 15 points into the elemental tree. You'll probably be a pretty high level by then though and there are more important talents to spend points on first.
