So... what are the new hot specs?Follow

#1 Apr 14 2009 at 8:29 AM Rating: Excellent
Pretty simple question, I haven't been keeping up with the ptr changes much, and now find myself with no clue what to do with my talent points :P.

I'll probably spend the day looking it up, but I figured I'd ask you guys, see if someone already did the work ;p

I threw this tank spec together at work earlier, but haven't looked into it in great detail. Someone did say other than in PvP litchborne is useless for tanking.

Its pretty much what i have now as it seems to work well :), thanks idiggory(for heads up on the spec ;))!

For frost

-20/51/0 :: Howling Blast with 3/3 DRM
-13/51/7 :: Howling Blast with 3/5 Bladed Armor, 3/5 %Crit, 2/2 Epidemic.
-4/51/16 :: Howling Blast with 2-3 Subversion, 1-2 Butchery, 3/3 Ravinous Dead, Ghoul Pet.
-1/51/19 :: Howling Blast with 1/3 Subversion OR Butchery, 3/3 Ravinous Dead, Ghoul Pet, 3/3 Blood Caked Blade.
-0/50/21 :: 5/5 Tundra Stalker, Same as above in UH + 1/3 Outbreak, 1/2 Dirge.

All from elitistjerks. I have heard of the second one from another source, wowinsider. I am not too sure how much I like the points in improved presence and ghoul frenzy.

I am sure it will be an ongoing process with what will be working best. I think I will lean towards the 0/10/61. I am wondering if it would be better to put the points from improved presence and ghoul frenzy into either finishing off necrosis for a full 20% shadow damage, or 3pts in annihilation for 3% more crit for melee.

I've been reading up on EJ and the 51/2/18 build seems to be most appealling to me just because it seems to be the best "mirror image" of pre 3.1 51/0/20.

Basically just re-placing OB with DS, but with the possibilites of using IT/PS before for greater damage overall.

However yet to log to actually test on a dummy.

I'm primarily interested in DPS, so I'll probably be going for the 0/10/61 (Unholy) build recommended by EJ.

Once an Unholy tank, always an Unholy tank...

I'll be going with this;
http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?deathknight=00553202003003000000000000000050000000000000000000000000215230035000015233001003102100&glyph=042220010405&version=9733

Really not sure what to do with the second spec. The smart thing would be to go DPS as I have a set for that already, but there's a perverse part of my brain wanting to go DW Frost tank.

I'm thinking of going with This.

I'm not quite sure what to do with the 3 leftover point, so I put them in Blade Armor.

This is to tank obviously.

I was Unholy tanking for a while, and really didn't like it, so I'm hoping Frost is still viable.

Consider putting those three talent points into Scent of Blood. They buffed it. Obviously it's only helpful if you are Runic Power starved which you might be if you use Rune Strike often.

That is the spec I was going to do Tyr, but decided to go Unholy at the last moment. I was a Frost tank, so this is a change for me.

Now, I am trying to figure out my PvP/PvE DpS spec... The problem is that I don't really want two Unholy specs. But, I am aiming at a BG/WG spec (that is viable for DpS) so the AoE abilities of Unholy, combined with an easier gearing process, is just plain delicious...

But HB is sexy too, even in its annoying 10s form.

I am looking at this spec for my DK for now. I am going to let the servers cool for a day or so and see what develops on the forums before I commit the points.

Maybe take the 2 points from Epidemic and cap Bladed Armor.

Since the disease duration was lengthened it might not be really needed.

My bladed armor is capped, unless your refering to another talent build on here?

I assume he is talking about Tyr.

That would probably work, but it would make rotations pretty damn tight. You would need to get off three Oblits or 1 HB and whatever in exactly 4.5 seconds (the diseases expiring after that .5). For fights with any sort of stun, this could get incredibly frustrating for your Threat generation...

I would just keep the points in Epidemic to be safe. Though, with the GoHB giving Frost Fever, the loss in AoE utility may just lend itself to Bladed Armor instead.

DPS: I'm going to try out 17/51/3 tonight. The other one I want to try is some version of 0/51/20 with necrosis and BCB (2h build). These builds are ones from EJ (or closely derived).

Tank: I tried 54/5/12 (no DRW or BG) and did not like it at all, so I respecced into 12/51/8 and haven't used that yet. I tried to tank Vaults with the first build and it was shaky. I'm going to be a frost tank for a bit until I find a decent blood tanking spec I like.

P.S. For some reason, I can't get the links to work here at work, so I just used numbers, sorry!

I'm digging the Glyph of Frost Strike atm, being able to dump 96 RP into 3 Frost Strike is really nice for aggro. By the time I'm done, I'll always have at least 2 runes back up for something else.

While HB can give Frost Fever with a Glyph, the problem is that IT practically deals as much damage as HB (on single target) and Obliterate deals more... making using HB on single target a bit of a waste.

I am trying 12/0/59, but I am not liking it too much.

DPS sucks and isn't very fluid-feeling, maybe a change in rotation...

Anyway, not going to give up on it yet Smiley: wink

Might try the 0/10/61 tomorrow

My dk is an alt and only gets to raid a little bit, so his gear is not great. I have been trying out the newish frost dps spec, 13/51/7.

Using the rotation IT>PS>OB>BS>BS>FS dump---OB>OB>OB>FS Dump. HB on rime procs or in heavy aoe fights.

I use IT/FS/OB glyphs with Razorice. I have been getting pretty good dps with this build, up from the 17/0/54 that I used to run. I got about a 500 dps increase on the heroic dummy over UH build.

BP and UP yield about the same results for me depending on the fight, so its what I am more comfortable with that I use. Generally BP. I got about a 500 dps increase on the heroic dummy over UH build.

I have not got a chance to do 25m patch so I cannot confirm actual accurate numbers, will post when I get to him. Anyone else using this spec/what are anyones results? Thanks.
