Gearing up for tanking, and i've noticed that theres quite a few DK tanks around that a DW'ing tanking swords. ATM im using a 2H w/ the tanking rune. Just wanting to know if DW would possible be better or no? Also if you could elaborate as to why, i would appreciate it.

No. The hit to Threat generation is humongous for a minimal bonus to mitigation.

Plus, Parry Gibbing increases the number of swings a boss gets.

DKs use DpS 2-handers, hopefully with a crapton of Strength and Stamina on them (among other stats).

For the last time, parry gibbing for bosses that actually matter (like Patchwerk) have been removed.

Either one is fine, DW has better stats generally and 2H has better threat, so you can play around with it.

Parry Gibbing may not be as much of an issue as in BC, but the numbers do show an increase in damage output. DW is just a pretty stupid move right now unless something changes. You give up SO MUCH to get SO LITTLE in return.

Even if it only leads to 1% additional swings, the best tanking one-hander in the game right now gives about 1.5% avoidance without DR. If you are lucky enough to get 2 of them, you will have about 3% additional avoidance (a HUGE over-statement. The axe gives Parry, which will have high DR for us). You will be taking 1% more hits (maybe more, maybe less, who knows).

Now, consider the fact that your threat generation is way lower than with 2-handers.

DW tanking right now is just not the smart choice. Do it if you want, but there is no valid reason for it. 2% avoidance is not worth cutting your threat from RS(!!!!), Oblit, BS, etc. in half.

[EDIT]

Okay, it likely isn't HALF, but it still a pretty hard cut.

Encounter, stats and RP depending, you can be losing about 15% to 25% of your instant attack threat. Gear depending you can also be boosting your autoattack threat by a figure I cannot estimate, wild guess for 15%.

I think it's a loss overall, but it's not like going dw will actually cause meaningful drawbacks.

The only abilities that scale better with DW than 2H are Necrosis and BCB. BCB causes even more parries, and neither of them are so big as to make much of a real difference.

The slowest 1H in the game hits nowhere near as hard as a standard 80 epic 2H, so all your strikes will do far less damage, and so far less threat.

Dual Wield was awesome for DPS, not so much for tanking. What few experiences I've had with DW tanks has been terrible, except the one time where the guy already outgeared the heroic and was probably just bored. Dual Last Laughs and full Epic achievement gear can do it, fine. I'd rather heal for a 2H tank if most of your gear is blue.
