what is the 3.1 leveling spec for locks?
I'd still say it's affliction. Even though I don't play on the PTR, I bet it still has the "zero downtime if done right" bonus.
SL is still there, just not its own DOT.
Siphon Life
When you deal damage with your Corruption spell, you are instantly healed for 40% of the damage done. In addition, the damage done by your Corruption, Seed of Corruption and Unstable Affliction damage over time effects is increased by 5%.
I would expect deep aff and SL/FG to still be the fastest leveling specs.

My lock is Haunt+ in Affliction and enough demo for Soul Link.
I tend to use my imp in groups or raids unless another is preferred... have 12.8k hp at 75 vw has 12.3k hp.
VW while soloing.
Glyphs are Haunt, Shadowflame, Unending Breath, Killrog and Exhaustion.
Only time he dies is when he falls off a cliff. LOL
Unbuffed spell damage is 631 and nearly 11% crit.
For some reason my dps lags... probably my rotation.
Rotation is Corruption, UA, Haunt, Lifetap - then:
A] regular mobs just finish w/ SB.
B] 'burn down the house' add shadowflame, CoA, Immo then repeat rotation.
Unless I just Seed of Pwnage spam.
Either way the energizer bunny...
Any constructive advice is welcome... Volnec on Silver Hand if you need to look at Armory.
I only have minimal enchants waiting til 80 for the pricy ones.
Use haunt before corruption and UA so you can get the 20% buff when soloing, when in a dungeon open with shadowbolt, haunt once you get 5 points into shadow embrace to boost your dots by 30%.

No empowered Corruption until I can start stacking spell damage, I don't think it justifies 3 points when you only have 100 spell damage. No points in shadow's embrace because I don't use Shadow-bolt in my solo play(just dot and drain), same goes for eradication while leveling.
While I don't use Improved Howl of terror in my 80 build, so few points to spare, it's the talent I'm most looking forward to, I remember ripping stuff up with that in Outlands. Dots on anything that moves, aoe fear, drain back to full, dead bodies everywhere. Pets are for the weak haha.

My Affliction rotation for solo play is SB > Haunt > UA > CoA > Corruption. Then Drain soul or Life Tap and Drain Life. Also, I got tired of pulling aggro from the Void, so I've switched to using the Imp for the most part.

Why do you guys open up with Shadow Bolt when soloing?
I've found that I have way too many DOTs for soloing. By the time I apply the last one, the mob dies. So now I just use Curse of Elements > Haunt > Corruption and Drain Life/Soul if I need health/mana.
I drain hunt, by the way. Cheaper repairs.

I prefer drain hunting, but lately I've been drain tanking. The 3.1 nerf to the VW means that he can't take as much damage from tougher opponents, so it was somewhat forced on me.
I'm not 80 yet. 77 at the moment, and my gear isn't super good, but grinding out quests at my level+1 or +2 is very easy as affliction (drain tanking, with FelDoggy as my pet of choice).
For normal mobs around my level:
Open with Haunt; put on Corruption, Unstable Affliction & CoA; wand until dead (or Drain Soul if I need a shard).
Most of the time the health return from Haunt covers the loss during the fight.
For multiple/tough mobs, I insert a SB to the start, throw Corruption on each mob, replace wand with Drain Life.
Seems to work.
I never bother with Incinerate, and haven't touched Immolate since the last patch

CoA isn't worth it in the middle of a fight because it takes too long to do any damage. Need to throw it in at the start if at all.
No point starting with SB if it's a regular mob, it uses a lot of mana and takes a long time to cast.
I open with Corruption (instant, nice) then UA, Haunt... then LIFE TAP. Finish off with a wand or SB, Incinerate etc. and thanks to the Life tap you've got the same Mana and Health you started with.

that made me lol. Just go demonology and never worry about finding groups for any group quests, make affliction your second spec for drain tanking easy leveling. Just stay away from destro till end game, u can kill one mob in 2 seconds sure but affliction can kill 30 mobs way quicker and thats what its all about.

I find that usually by the time I have hit the mob with Haunt, UA and Corruption even the VW fails to hold aggro...
which is why I love the 3.1.2 patch for VW sac ability... 8k absorb and a cool black bubble ftw!
