Sarth 2/3D and Hunter DPSFollow

#1 Mar 17 2009 at 3:12 PM Rating: Decent
I am a fairly well equipped Survival Hunter, and usually in the top 3 DPS for my guilds raids, with one exception - Sarth 2/3D!!

My DPS is consistently 1k less on this fight than any other fight, and it pisses me off no end. I never die to flame walls or void zones, so my total damage done is always good but the DPS needed to get the first drake down is all important! I know we have to run around to get out of void zones and flame walls, and I know we have to tranq shot enraged adds, and MD drakes to the OT's, but my poor DPS is suffering badly!

Do other Hunters have a similar experience with this encounter? Any ideas / tips / flashes of brilliance would be welcome!

Thanks in advance

1: the HELP ME! thread is made specifically to answer these type of questions.

2: minimize movement wherever you can, maximize Lock and Load procs.
(you'll have to figure out how to do that yourself, but it shouldn't be hard with some thinking)
Other than that, there's not a whole load you can do to get more dps, assuming you have all your important abilities hotkeyed and a good reaction time.

eh, this thread is fine here Aethien. It could generate some discussion.

I find having to constantly reposition my pet costs me a decent amount of dps. That being said, I have found my dps has gone up the more I've done it. Always position yourself in a gap from the lava walls, and then hope they come from the direction that will let you not move.

With regards to L&L procs, I avoid using frost trap, because I find (and others find) the void zones are a lot harder to see when that trap is on the ground.

I also have found that DPS has scaled with familiarity on this fight. Recalling and sending pet as efficiently as possible is all you can do. Frost traps are bad, both for the void zones and it makes it harder(slower)for add tanks to move them during flame wall=enraged adds=tranq shots for you (we have no rogues)=less DPS.

But yeah, even in a good drakes up run I still do significantly less DPS than most any other boss. Haven't been able to find any secrets though.

That's the answer to your question :P. It might not seem like much, but all of that takes time away from DPS. When they all add up, it can easily reduce your DPS by 1k or so (Compared to other fights like Patchwerk).

Something you need to keep in mind is that the DPS meters are inflated by the whelps. Even when I volley them down, I'm usually beaten out by our Locks and Rogues. The most important DPS is the drake DPS, recount shows your top targets damaged. While AOEing whelps down is good, you need to keep in mind that so is killing the drake.

I remember that we had an Enhancement Shammy who would barely out DPS the whelp tank, overall. However, when we broke down the damage done to drakes (Tenebron specifically), we noticed he was actually out DPSing all everyone on drakes.
