Leveling a brand new fire mage. Its a lot of fun, but I have no idea what kind of stats are the most important. I'm not sure if I should be stacking fire damage, int, or trying to find crit somehow.
safe balance of all is the best answer. Get each where you can. I prefer to stack mostly stam/int at the lower levels and grab spellpower where you can.
I would say at least at lower levels tailoring can be very useful for the spell damage gear , i know its not so great at end game now but is at low to mid levels and if done with enchanting can give you the stats you are low in ,
I would say first 20 levels go sta/int for the survival aspect , then try and fill in some spell power gear , i guess + spell power is probably better than + fire damage as it gives an all round boost to spells ?.
I know i have not tried or looked at the Fire tree recently but am guessing there is some crit to be had in the tree so that is where your crit will come from.
I have seen some very nice BoP for Mages drop from bosses so that may help you get decent gear if you intend to do a few instances.
Somewhere around level 30 or so, Spellpower should start becoming available. Once it does, it's your friend for life, and the stat you'll seek above all else (in general).
For Fire, Crit is generally more useful than Haste, although while leveling this isn't much of a concern.
Don't worry about Hit until much, much later. It's extremely important for endgame content, but not so much for leveling.
I have been leveling a Fire Mage since Christmas. Now lvl 68.
I can honestly say the from lvl 1-60 the absolute best gear is any thing "of Fiery Wrath"! This is +damage for Fire spells. Try to get one piece for each slot and upgrade every 10 levels. If you can't find a piece of Fiery Wrath then "of the Eagle" is your second choice. Most stuff died in 3 fireballs. Two if they both crit. Fastest leveling comes from Quests. Get in, blow stuff up with Fireballs, finish the quest and move on to next.
