Just curious about this. Is fire the new leveling spec. O.o? Reason I ask this is I've seen sooooo many fire mages lately and hardly any frost mages at all. I'm specced fire but I am fire because I love fire. Just what I've noticed. Also I was told today by a 80 fire mage that pyro blast sucks...period. He said just stick with fireball, frostbolt and fireblast for leveling as fire. I was like ok. I usually open with it and it hits pretty hard. Why not use it.

I always preferred frost for leveling.

Pyro doesn't suck at at all.

If you can wait the 5 seconds to cast it, it is a solid spell to open with.

The effect it gives versus the amount of time it takes to cast isn't great. It's decent, but I personally wouldn't worry about using Pyro until you have Hot Streak. Pick it up, by all means, though, because Blastwave is excellent for getting out of tight spots when leveling.

One thing I've always like about fire is the raw stopping power. Mob drops dead right before it gets to me. My rotation is PB,FB,Scorch and fire blast. Usually never finish it but thats pretty much what I use. :D I use nova and such to help keep multiple mobs under control. I read now that aoe isn't what it used to be. Questing is. So I choose fire fire!

I levelled 1-80 as fire. It was a bit rough in the 10-40 range because I was a new player and didn't know how to play efficiently and my talent points were all over the place (what is ignite?). Pretty soon, I adjusted a few things and leveling became easier. I never looked back (except for that one time in college where I experimented with arcane and frost....it was only once I swear!) Now, I quest with my FFB spec and burn through mobs, rarely die, and usually top dps in my guild. I realize that I might be able to squeak out some more dps as arcane, but honestly, I didn't like the play style.

I should eventually dust off my 40 fire mage. I probably never will though. Fire!

Level 30 and ran some sm tonight. Ran 3 times and I was top dps. I was excited. :D Even though its a low level instance that for me was a serious eye opener. I don't really have a problem soloing as fire. I just open with pyro, then fire ball and by the time they get to me I cast fire blast and POOF there gone. Yeah fire takes more mana to use but were mages. We have all the water we need. And I'm alchemy soooooo yeah. :D All in all I love fire. Have since the first time I played one. Won't turn back...there's nothing you can say that will make me do it!

I think that in the low to mid level bracket it really makes no difference. Fire or Frost. I have been slowly leveling a Frost Mage, and I kill almost at the same speed as a fire mage, but my mana usage is why better. This means that while a fire mage kills mobs a 3 sec cast before me, I make it up in being able to kill X number of mobs more before resting or popping evo.

As for instances, WoW is so pathetic with low to mid level instances now, I often will 3 man them with the right group, which is Tank, Healer, and any dps. (Sometimes with two tanks even.)

I remember the good ole days when you were doing your first VC or WC run and you were all nervous about group dynamics and how do you do this or that and the number of wipes. Now it is run, as fast as you can, get blue drops, rinse and repeat once or twice.

Last in the low to mid level instances if you like being top dps as a frost mage, you just have to know when and what to cast as it is not so simple as casting primarily fireballs and fireblasts with a scorch or two. Tends to be a bit more usage of all 3 magic types to be on top of dps, but only if your group is stopping to mana up occassionally.

I love fire when I was leveling 1-50. But what I have found higher up get frost & acrane survivablity become overwheming factor. Fire does more damage but the ability of some mobs to make battle last over 20 second theshold when fire is a its best become a nusiance.

My reroll is fire. For me it's the most comfortable tree to level in. I often use Pyro to open, but not always. It depends on mana and the path of the mob.
