What to do with extra mouse buttons?Follow

I recently bought a new toy- a gaming mouse with 5 buttons (first piece of gaming hardware, uh-oh I feel a trend coming on!). I have tried a couple of things on the extra mouse buttons with mixed results and was looking for some suggestions on what others use the extra buttons for. I have tried using them for movement, one forward one backward- meh, it doesn't feel exactly right. I have tied one to PTT for vent and will not be available when I am in raids (although I could do something else for this function.)

Soooo, whatcha guys got tied to them buttons?

I'd have a hard time playing without my 5 button mouse, to be honest =P I think most of my hotkeys are bound to my mouse.

Mouse wheel click = Flash Heal if a friendly target is selected, smite if an enemy is selected
Shift mouse wheel click = Prayer of Mending or Mind Blast
Control mouse wheel click = Dispel
Control mouse wheel scroll up = Mass dispel
Control mouse wheel scroll down = Dispel disease

Extra left button = Penance if friendly or no target is selected, Shadow Word: Pain if an enemy is selected
Shift + extra left button = Not sure right now
Control + extra left button = Power Word: Fortitude

Extra right button = Holy Nova if friendly or no target is selected, else Devouring Plague
Shift + extra right button = Not sure either
Control + extra left button = Divine Spirit

This setup basically plays a bit like Assassin's Creed if any of you tried that. Holding the control makes me enter 'buff mode', and makes all my hotkeys either dispel buffs or cast them. Not holding anything makes my hotkeys cast the main straightforward spells while holding shift uses cooldowns and alternative spells (like Mind Blast instead of Smite).

Hmm let's see if I can remember my set-up

Friendly target/hostile target

Left Click = Flash Heal/Smite
+ Shift = Renew/Shadow Word: Death
+ CTRL = Hymn of Hope/Mind Sear
Right Click = Greater Heal/Holy Fire
+ Shift = Gift of the Naaru/Devouring Plague
Middle Mouse Wheel Button = Prayer of Healing/Shadow fiend
+ Shift = Divine Hymn
+ CTRL = Ressurection
Button 4(left side button) = Binding Heal/Mind Blast
+ Shift = Bubble
Button 5(right side button = Prayer of Mending/Shadow Word: Pain

I also use buttons 1-6 and R, F, C, V, B in conjunction with Shift & CTRL on the keyboard. I am almost positive I have more damaging spells, but I rarely use more than Holy Fire, PW:S, PW:D(whenever prayer of mending lands on me) and Shadow fiend.

You're running the same macros as me then, Synn?

Also, I just figured out I in fact *don't* have Shift button 4 and shift button 5 bound at all! =O Looks like I'll be remapping my hotkeys a bit...

Pushing the extra 3 buttons I use for strafing left and right and going backwards. Mouse Wheel Up = "Oh crap he needs a lot of healing fast" macro, Mouse Wheel Down = "Oh crap I need a lot of healing fast" macro.

No I don't make macros lol, I use Clique+grid. So much easier to set-up clique than to make macros for for each of the spells.

Holy wheelspins Batman! I never realized you could bind to the scroll. Didn't even need to buy anything for that! /facepalm
Thanks for sharing, time to experiment with these doo-dads. I currently just use mouseover macros with keyboard bindings. I'm hoping to avoid hand cramps by simplifying the layout. I haven't tried the help/harm dual macro yet, that sounds full of win.

I bind my extra mouse buttons to modifier keys. Ctrl, Alt, and Shift. It allows me to access more options without stretching. For example if my right hand is on my mouse and my left hand is in the asdf position how would I hit ctrl+T? Or even a close one like ctrl+Z? I have to move my left hand to do the keystrokes. With the modifiers on my mouse I can easily hit the T or Z keys like I'm normally used to typing while holding the modifier down on the mouse. BTW my mouse has my modifiers on the side so my right thumb accesses them. That way I can still do a ctrl or shift + right/left click.

Gadgets, Bond, Gadgets!

I only use modifiers for stuff I don't need in a pinch (My mounts, foods, etc. generally have bindings that involve ctrl, buffs usually have a shift). I like my spells to be one easy key. I'm an old lady; combinations are too hard for me to remember.

I'm a shortcut freak. Everything has to be accessible quickly and easily. My keys and mouse are setup logically.

I can access over 250 abilities/moves in two keystrokes or less.

I have my mouse button 3+4 (either side of the mouse) bound to strafe, I find it quite handy except when I try to strafe with both keyboard and mouse (in which case nothing happens). If I had an extra mouse button I would probably bind it for fishing, because when I'm trying to level that it seems like such hard work to either a) press the button on my keyboard or b) move my mouse to my fishing action button.
