Well, there's battles you can win and battles you can't win. A gang-bang, a higher level or being stunlocked by a class with a blatant advantage vs. clothies (I'm looking at you Rouge). There's really no point mulling over the fights where the odds are against you. But if we are talking same level, and we are talking one on one, I think you can win or at least put up a good fight.
I'm sure a true PvP vet can you give you better advice, and probably better advice vs. specific classes. But I'll try to share what little I have learned in Battlegrounds (because I'm on a PvE server).
A Melee's #1 trick to cripple you is to try and maneuver behind you, because most of your spells won't work if the target is behind you. Notice I said: Most.
Shadow Word: Pain, Shadow Word: Death, Devouring Plague, Shadow Fiend, Mind Control, (and probably more) be cast on a target that is behind you. Penance and IIRC Mindflay are in a category of their own, because while you can't cast it on someone behind you, once it's cast it will cause your character to turn and follow a target regardless of what direction they go for the duration of the Channel. (Penance is good spell to go for, for the record)
Although Mind Blast and Holy Fire are better burst damage in your situation, you might have a hard time getting them off. Better to wait until your certain your enemy will remain in front of you to use them. Which can be accomplished with the likes of Psychic Scream.
Your very first instinct might be to Psychic Scream first thing. Let me suggest that you hold off. First thing you should do is PW:S. Wait on the Psychic Scream until you've Dispel'd, SW:P'd, SW:D'd and whatever else I mentioned above you can squeeze in before your Shield is properly chewed on.
The reason for this is because you can't ride PW:S to PW:S against a DPS of your same level. There's going to be a gap between where you'll be exposed, forced to go on the defensive, spending precious mana and time healing yourself. Use Psychic Scream to put this gap on your own terms. This allows you to not only get a breather in between Shields, it allows your SW:P and whatever other DOT you could manage time to work their magic, and well as giving you a casting opportunity with Holy Fire/Penance/MindBlast.
I guess in a PvP server likes yours you have to think of it like dealing with a Bully. Because let's be honest here, game-sanctioned behavior or not, that description is entirely accurate. They're not after a clothie healer because they want a challenge, they're after you because they think your easy. And as long as you keep being easy, you'll keep being a target.
Win or Lose, do not be easy.
