I was invited to a group to tank H.HoS. I have never done it.

Group is:

Paly Tank (me)
Demon Lock
Affliction Lock
Hunter (Didn’t check spec)
Druid Heals

That 3rd boss – The Escort section just simply killed us. We tried it 4 times and eventually gave up.

Attempt 1: Me and the Hunter don’t know what’s going to happen. Both read the fight, never DID the fight. Goes well. We get to stage 3 – they kill the Escort. We all learn to pay more attention to him.

Attempt 2: Some of the groups run in – Past my Consecrate – 2 shot healer. (I live cause they instantly killed the Escort and de-agro) Slowing traps deployed to help, but didn’t save us.

Attempt 3: Same thing, This time it is caused by a Lock getting in trouble trying to kill the caster mobs that appear from the right side. (We saw the casters hitting the healer from range and made a point to get them to agro elsewhere.) Lock pulls agro (Not on pet) and needs a few quick heals – I need heals….. Etc…. Again – Good work on the slowing traps.

Attempt 4: “Last Try” Slow trap placed at the top (Near) of the steps. I’m on the steps. Locks have out Voids. Healer is in the back. Hunter is assigned “Save healer duty” as I just can’t get agro fast enough – if the mobs sprint past me they don’t get hit by my consecrate. (Yes, I’m throwing the new taunt out, the ‘old taunt’ and throwing a shield as often as possible.)

So – How do you do this fight? Clearly I’m not picking up agro fast enough.

*All members of the group were good at their jobs. Lowest DPS was 2100 – which is not great, but well beyond “Wipe-fest”. I’m Def Cap’d with 25k health unbuffed and starting to consider stacking avoidance rather than just pure STA. Healer was never close to /OOM and never seemed to have a problem.

You might've missed the same thing I did when I first did that event: If somebody stands near Brann and the lazer hits him, it also hits Brann for badass amounts of damage. As a paladin you shouldn't have too much trouble picking up all the adds, but what could've been the problem for your group was that your healer was standing near Brann and got him lazer-killed.

2100 is not even close to low dps. Sounds like people were standing in the increasingly powerful AoE which is death in about 2 seconds if you don't move.

I found the best way to deal with that fight is for the group to stack up at the narrowest point in the steps leading into the room. The mobs spawn about 5 yards outside it, so you can quickly hurl your shield and pick them up. People running around the circular room leads to scattered mobs and confusion.

I consecrate at the top of the stairs but closer to the left side and use shield on mobs as they enter on right side. No mob ever gets through that if you do it well actually.

Yes, the best way is to try to create a "bottleneck" at the narrowest point of the stairs as the mobs enter the room and keep them all in the bottleneck. The healer can stand in the room but should avoid standing anywhere near Bran.

By creating a bottleneck, the tank should be able to pick up the vast majority of the mobs, and they don't really hit all that hard, so if a DPS has aggro on a single mob, it probably isn't going to instantly kill them and you can taunt the mob off of the dps.

The other big thing is to stay out of those lasers. When phase 3 gets going and there are mobs coming in fast as well as MAJOR laser damage, it does generally get chaotic. Everyone has to stay on their toes during the last phase, or regardless of anyone's stats, people are going to die.

I'm guessing that what you guys have said is exactly what we were doing.

I know for a fact that the healer was near the Escort for one pull because we positioned the healer there.

We attempted the bottle next idea, but when using Ranged DPS - we likely didn't have enough movement. I wouldn't go so far as saying Melee is a big advantage, but clearly being forced to move from location to location would prevent someone from standing in the beam too long.

Combine that with the phase 2 part that amps up the Damage - and I guess that explains it.

I didn't know the point about standing next to the Escort. If we had tried another time - I planned on dropping my consecrate on Him - with the healer near me.... Clearly that would have been complete FAIL.

Back at it tonight.

It also helps to manage your cooldowns, especially in phase 3. I found that AS was often on cooldown and wasn't available to grab the casters coming in from the right side of the stairs, so I'd make sure to have HotR off cooldown and smack them as soon as they were close enough. A Righteous Defense here and a Hand of Reckoning there and you shouldn't have too many problems.
