LOL 3.1 Mage "changes"Follow

Mage (Skills List / Talent + Glyph Calc.)

* Improved Water Elemental – this talent has been removed and replaced with a new talent that grants Replenishment (similar to Shadow priests).
* We are also working on a way to give frost mages Ice Lance “Shatter combos” in PvE.
* We are also working on more survivability for Fire spec in PvP.
* We are also working on making Spirit a more useful and interesting stat for all mages.

How worthless. wee a replenishment buff for a spec that does 1k less dps. ice lance shatter combos won't pull frost out of the gutter (beyond the point that they have been saying this for months). Wee survivability for fire in PvP... Spirit useful/interesting... maybe if they make mage armor take spirit as +dmg or something...

I was pretty disappointed too; seems like it was just an afterthought, "oh, let's write some stuff about mages" type thing. Here's hoping that there's a lot more to come. It'd be nice to see ignite munching fixed and something good for frost dps.

Blech.

I'm beginning to get the feeling that Mages are indeed the Rodney Dangerfield of WoW.

Build that one arcane spirit -> crit talent that got scrapped into Molten Armor, IMO.

Guess my mage stays dusty at 71 while my paly and alts have fun.

Frankly - I put my mage aside in Wrath and haven't looked back. I won't go so far as saying the class is broken, but it's definately lost a lot of the appeal. I don't PVP, so I'm not into that.

Only thing I miss is the Teleports.

I'm not too happy about the Elemental talent being removed. As a frost mage, I use it a ton. Got the glyph, I pop that thing every 2.5 seconds. Great during boss fights. I get to keep it out for a whole minute!? Yes please! I hope they at least increase the duration then. Can't even tell you how many times It's helped to have it out and extra 15 seconds from that talent. Let Blizzard know there is at least (and probably the only) Frost Mage who is not happy about this.

Mages right now (good mages) are owning the meters in raid boss fights. This most likely explains why we didn't get any significant buffs. I would be ready for some arcane nerfs.

Yeah, what they are reporting is not as bad as I expected.

I don't think we can really complain. I'm in the top 5 or 3 now with Arcane or Fire, and we all know about Arcane in PVP. We got a lot of attention lately. Although, as has been stated earlier Frost is the new Old Arcane. I only spec into it for the +hit and icy veins.

The fact that a couple of trees are doing good damage doesn't negate the fact that bugs need to be fixed and that the other tree needs to be fixed. I can settle for dual spec where frost is my farm spec, but I know that a lot of frosties are not happy with that, and I don't blame them. Plus, ****, just fix the ignite munching bug, already, blizzard! :)

If you have good gear and want to be doing max dmg then you're specced Arcane anyways and Arcane doesn't benefit from ignite...

get this straight though, you still want a mage to provide imp. scorch debuff or you will never hit the full potential the spec has to offer.

Indeed. I'd quite imagine that a caster heavy raid will find a lot more benefit from a Frostfire/Fire mage than an arcane mage. The only real problem is that you don't need any after one.

But fortunately, a skilled 18/53/0 or 0/53/18 (ish) mage can be very close to arcane.

close is close. RNG can always conspire to kill your dps, I am playing FFB and I know how much RNG can suck. The beauty of playing Fire and the elegance of playing Arcane in BC was RNG. Fire needed RNG and arcane required less RNG (clearcast?) since its damage output was controlled.

Add in ignite munching taking away significant numbers over a long fight makes it just sad to be fire mage. I like my fires T.T

*stretch*.... I'm dusting off my lvl 70 mage to level him finally (been working on my hunter and lock and such)... I have a lot of reading to do!!! Arcane kicks all ***, but now is nerfed... frost sucks? (oh wait... that's always been true, but it is fun for PVP and Leveling, which is what I am doing now). Ignite munching? Hmmm, so many things to re-read.

What is with the QQ here? Mages are dps gods in WotLK and probably the third toughest PvP class (behind retadins and DKs, both of whom are ridiculous).

Yeah, I've gotten caught in a couple of waves because of that. Thank god for iceblock.

That's the one. Unfortunately, I had just gotten hit by a meteor and the fire aura was still up, so I had no chance to hit IB in time.

I have to admit that falling off a cliff and blinking before you hit the ground has been really fun. Alhtough, it's a pain that we still can't blink off of a 1" step. I can't count the times I tried to blink and was stopped in my tracks from a small elevation change.

I've only ever played a mage in wow and played full fire up until WoTLK. I have found that frost is definately the better leveling tool. The question is: What is the best spec for instances pre/raiding?

even with the nerfs I was on the top of the dps charts for 10 man naxx last night. I had to fight with the hunter and s.priest to stay ahead but as far as damage done for the whole night goes I was about 300k damage head of everyone. A good speced mage can pump out alot of damage. I dont know why people are complaining about mage. If you read up on specs or try a few of your own you can be doing rather well. And the pom arcane power nerf isnt really that bad you just cast them seperate and before hand I was doing that most of the time anyways. I like what they did to the arcane missles glyph...i have always liked Arcane missles and now they made it better ^^

Hmm, nah. I guess if I were an arena player or an extremely competitive sort, I might have stuck with arcane for more than 8 hours. I just didn't like it. Our raids are always caster-heavy, so it's appreciated that I stuck with FFB, while our top dps mage went arcane. Even so, I beat her in several fights the other nite in our (mostly) one-shot 10man naxx. We both had personal bests, though. Anyway, for now I'm mostly ignoring the ignite munch thing. I mean, if scorch or LB absolutely needs to be refreshed, okay, I'll do it. I'm not overscorching as much anymore because of the worry about the bug, so my dps is better. Still, it would be nice to see a fix.
