does haste affect rune cooldowns? simple question, but i cant find a straight answer on it, and personal experience tells me that yes, it does.

no, nor does melee haste affect our gcds

haste in general is a bad stat and the best it offers is a slightly quicker rune strike, all in all, avoid it when possible.

Haste affects spell GCDs only. So it would work on army of the dead and death gate, but those spells are longer than 1.5 seconds so you wouldnt notice a difference.

What you are seeing with GCDs, and I don't completely understand it myself because nobody was ever conclusive on it, is apparently for some reason if you are chaining runes the refresh time on the runes can go from 10 seconds to like 8.5 or something like that.

"If the attack missed then any runes utilized will be placed on a short 1.5 second cool down, if it landed successfully then a 10 second cool down ensues. There is an exception to this rule however in that if a rune is consumed within 2 seconds of its cool down expiring; it will only be placed on an 8.5 second cool down period."

"It was always assumed that Runes just had a pure 10 second regen time. This has proven to be false from various tests. The behaviour that has been noted is that after the first set of runes very often runes regen after 8 seconds. The current concensus is the following:

Runes have a 10 second regen time. However, if you do not use your regenerated rune as soon as it comes up, it will activate a timer (up to 2 seconds, is the current theory) which will count as the Rune being used."

That might be this "haste" you are seeing on your runes. Basically it will shave up to 2 seconds off the rune's cooldown time if it is used within 2 seconds of its cooldown refreshing. This gives DK a good reason to always keep runes on cooldown and chain quickly.

Haste is a bit less bad for DWing...

ok, thanks for that explanation enthalpy. i asked this because, having recently respecced from blood to frost (including icy talons) i noticed that while on a training dummy practicing some skill permutations that many, if not all of my runes were consistently cooling down between 8 and 7 seconds. adding two and two together i realized that icy talons + imp icy talons gave me 25% haste, and i know that blizzard likes to "round" numbers off sometimes over the course of multiple ticks or cooldowns. hence, that would explain the roughly half amount of time i would see an 8s CD or a 7s CD on my runes.

interesting mechanic.
