The portals all ways spawn the same mobs.

On the ones that spawn the packs I stay around 20 feet back from the portal, hit one withh FFF and then Demo Roar, followed by a Swipe based rotation. Usually grabs all of the easily. Watch out though one of them likes to shadow step behind you. When they do that I just back up or pivot to ensure Swipe and Maul will still hit them all.

The ones with a guardian of some kind I run up on the portal before they spawn. I try and stay about 5 feet off the portal at roughly a 45 degree angle. I use a more Mangle based rotation but still lean heavily on Swipe. I usually don't realize I have the extra mobs until the big guy dies. If one starts to make a break for it I will target and FFF or taunt as needed. These little buggers are non-elite so don't usually sweat it that much as they don't hit that hard and are easy for the DPS to nuke down.

Hope that helps.

Honestly, tanking in H VH is about making sure everyone knows their priorities. You can't really mark them because of time, but just set out a pre-emptive kill order. I do the mage type first, because they frequently drop aggro anyway to do that channelled spell, are annoying with the knockback spell, and if a DPS does steal aggro, they're just gonna eat mostly magic damage. The rogue types, stalker I think, should go down next simply becase of their annoying teleport ability. Third type, can't remember name, hunters maybe? And lastly, the captains. Everytime I've seen tank trouble or had it myself it's because some moron decides to solo the captain and then get's a spear or seven in the face. It's to the point where I always ask if people know the bosses and I always set up the kill order before hand. Really though, this in general should be common knowledge for most DPS for unmarkable mobs (caster/ranged/AOEers take priority over basic warrior types). Or are you having just general problems with AOEers?

I am fairly certain they don't drop aggro per se as Omen will still tell me I have aggro. They do like to randomly do their spell on whoever they damn well please. I typically Bash them when they try and pull that ****.

I have noticed a lot of various mobs in this expansion seem to have abilities they use on the non-highest aggro targets. It's fun.

When I see the pack of elites coming I'll drop Nature's Grasp on myself (which doesn't take you out of bear form), hit the maul button (which will hit as soon as the targeted mob is in range) FFF one (usually one in back), then target the closest mob. Sswipe like hell. Growl any that get by. Past that its just keeping them all in front of me and swipe/maul.

EDIT: The other thing to remember is these elites will be heading to the door. You can position yourself in line with this and as long as nobody does anything right off the bat you can usually grab them all pretty quick. If the healer is still topping you off and the dps start right in, its gonna be messy...

TBH these packs can be a real pain, even for experienced tanks. Sometimes the pull just goes bad. I have tried a few times when the captain would start by stunning me before i have agro on all mobs. As a countermeasure you use beserk and ready the mangle spam just when the rogue mob steps behind you and the caster mobs just goes after random stuff as it usually does. That's a good time to use challenging roar and get those suckers bunched up.

Fortunately i usually play with people i know and who know to bring mobs back to the tank if they run off.

Just try to have some rage left for the next group.
1-2 swipes is all you need.
just use swipe first to bind aggro on you.
then start tanking the focus-target a bit more.

yeah i would go with what horse said it's what i do and have had no problem. i have my raid targets hot keyed by my attacks so i can mark skull right away and i stay on it if others leave eh i see it as they're fault. i normaly still pull back off them but if they do it alot i /w "healer" let them die. they tend to listen then. lol

I've been getting a glitch ever since the patch where one of the packs (the one on the left side on the top, left of the collapsed rubble part and right of the stairs) will actually split up and head to the door from different angles. One group will go down the rubble and one will go down the stairs. If it's a pack of 3, it will split up two one way and one the other, and if it is a pack of 4, it will split up two and two.

Pain. In. My. *******. ***.

I think that glitch has happened to me. I was highly confused when I saw them pounding to get out. Never realized it before as I waiting a bit off from where the slope meets the ground. Luckily they didn't kill my healer.

Yeah I worded that wrong, not really an aggro drop.

And the pack split up is not a glitch I imagine, but rather meant to happen to throw a curveball at ya. There have been a handful of minor trash tweaks from what I can tell. In heroic HoS, I don't think the mind controllers ever managed to actually mind control a party member until after the patch. At least, I never noticed it before, so maybe the success or use rate was upped.

I'm afraid that isn't a glitch. Read your patch notes!! :)

Working as intended........Bastards! All it does is give us tanks a harder time.

Hey guys,

This is a bit off topic. But not entirely. I'm having some tanking issues on my server. I've been Feral-Tank spec my whole Druid life and tanked through TBC content also. But it seems that every heroics and reg instance I run no one wants to use any type of CC. It really doesn't matter to me. So long as I can hold 4-6 mobs with no issue. Hoever that's just not the case. As a druid tank wipe just doesn't generate the threat you need to hold 6 mobs when you got 3 other members doing massive AoE dmg. So I would like some tips and suggestions on what to do for multiple mobs. Spell rotation or changing mob targets frequently. It god bad one time when we ran H VH and the two mages that were with me were getting pissed because they kept gaining aggro. I explained that I was doing all the dmg possible and they should probably wait a few seconds for me to gain full aggro on all mobs before starting their AoE. However they wouldn't wait and stated as a tank I'm no good because I can't hold aggro on more then 4 mobs and they left the group. This has happened to me a few times in a few different Heroics. But it's always been a case where I suggest CC and none of the CC classes want to use it. Arguing that the groups AoE dps should be able to burn them down. But for some reason it's hard for me to hold aggro. I'm really not new at tanking and I don't think Wrath is going to right way in making all these classes think it's a damn pull and AoE dps race with no CC or no coordination. It just seems to me like the raids and heroic encounters are not for a group to utilize it's full potential but to just zerg **** and move on. I personally liked having to mark and CC and plan out pulls. Should all pulls be like this? No absolutely not. Should an instance that has only 3 bosses taske 2 hours because of careful precise planning on trash pulls. I don't think so either. But a little bit more then just mass pull and massive AoE then scream at thr tank because he couldn't hold aggro for 30 seconds on 6 mobs while the DPS goes complete Ape ****. Sorry for ranting a bit but I want to be a great tank. I think I'm a pretty good tank but I need a few pointer on what to do to help my situation. Thank you for reading and helping out.

Armory me if you want.

All I do once I have the mobs in position is spam Maul & Swipe (Definitely get the Maul glyph). If that isn't enough then you might need some more hit/expertise or to get better DPS that know how to play - not just spend the whole time tying to top the meters.

#15 Feb 05 2009 at 11:57 PM Rating: Decent
Ya I got the Maul glyph. Which I can not live without now. It makes tanking easier for sure. I usually FFF a mob then spam Swipe and Maul, and switching targets during the process. But in a few cases as stated before it just doesn't help. I'll check into the hit rating and the expertise. They may have to do with it.

Beserk is on a 3 min CD and so is challenging roar (unless glyphed). Those can help get multiple mobs on you. Just use one of them, and then the other on the next pull and so on. Ofc challenging roar doesn't staple the mobs on you for long, but it give you a chance to bunch them up and start building threat.

Start your agro generaltion from range before dps has a chance to hit the mobs. What i usually do is fearie fire first mob and taunt second from range, then feral charge and maul third and commence maul/swipe spam

I haven't tanked a lot, but I would say if the DPS doesn't want to CC or hold back on the AoE then either kick them from the group or drop out yourself. My opinion is the tank rans the instance. As a DPS'er (kitty) if I pull aggro off of the tank and die its my fault not the tanks.

In the guild I'm in, when we run instances with a tank who is starting out we alway give him a few seconds to build aggro. The few times I did tank I would alway ask them to the time to do a couple of swipes before starting up. Didn't have too many problems.

I tried tanking H VH with a pug and it was a disaster. I will never tank a pug again because of it. I told them up front that I don;t have a lot of tanking experience but the DK kept yelling in party chat and on the second time we wiped started complaining about his repair bill. I said to heck with it and dropped group. The priest healer, who is a guild mate, dropped with me. I don't need that kind of crap.
