I just recently hit 80 on my DK alt. I was using Axe of Frozen Death (+37 STR, +54STA, hit rating +28, crit rating +43) (Sorry I cannot for the life of me get links working), which with my gear gave me a crit chance% of ~15.5%. I grinded some Ebon Blade rep for the Runeblade of Demonstrable Power sword (+63AGI, crit rating +67, haste +33, AP 168). When I equiped the sword, I was expecting an increase in crit chance, but instead it dropped to 12.5%! Can someone please explain to me how this dropped my crit instead of increasing it?

Weapon skill? Perhaps your skill is lower with swords?

I would really recommend farming the mats or buying (if you have the gold) a Titansteel Destroyer. It's quite a step up from Runeblade of Demonstrable Power. Just remember to train and raise your 2h maces.

As far as creating named item links in posts, the format is as follows [ url= http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=44249;source=live ] (Type Item Name)Runeblade of Demonstrable Power [ /url ] without all of the spaces. Creats a popup of the item for easy comparison. For the item link, do a quick alla search and copy the link of the item.

H-HoL is a very difficult heroic to finish, but it drops a pretty smecksy axe for you to use (183 dps).

reg Culling of Strat has a good sword too, its blue but its a start (might be on par with that rep sword).
Either way those can hold you off until you get into raids. Work on getting that axe from loken though, you'll see your dps jump leaps and bounds with it.

Thank you all. I greatly appreciate it. I am trying to farm the mats for the titansteel now. On my server, at least since the patch, titanium nodes seem to be in short supply. I suspect that with the 1 hit per node that they are being farmed rather quickly, hence the lack thereof.

62.5 Agi per 1% crit chance compared to 49.51 crit rating to 1% crit chance. Source

25 weapon skill points = 1% crit chance. Source

Weapon APEP chart by spec here.

As an aside, the Ebon Hold sword is really not all that good for DKs. It's silly that the Knights sell a hunter weapon, but what can ya do? /shrug

Good luck.

Not impressed by that one as we get little to no benefit from haste. I think the only true pre-raid alternative to Titansteel Destroyer drops in HoS:

You can say that, however DK are very weapon damage dependent. a higher dps weapon will do more for your dps than any piece of gear ever will, even if it does have haste on it. it is not as good as other 183 dps weapons because of the itemization (unless you have the orc racial), but its still better than any blue if you can get it.

2nd, haste has a positive effect on killing machine as frost.

KM does next to nothing for 2h Frost users.

Compared to DW, I mean.

Then again, why would you be DPSing as 2h Frost?

Exactly... and if you look closely, you'll see that the sword as actually a higher damage (514-772) vs the axe (507-761) because it's slower (3.8 vs 3.4)

Excellent for a tank, especially if you figure in the socket. Even better if you're a jewelcrafter (Solid Dragon's Eye for example)

This piece can go a very long way, and it's much easier to obtain in a PuG than the Loken axe. Even if you get a better raid drop eventually, it will still remain a solid backup thanks to the flexibility coming from the socket.

Just looks kinda boring in comparison...

H HoL isn't really difficult, the problem lies where very undergeared healers refuse to move out of the AoE of Lightning Nova on Loken and like to blame others for dying. My static group for heroics just tank n spank him. Our healer heals right through Nova.

To answer your question, Frost Strike? Obliterate?

KM for DW or 2H isn't bad.

One common myth that many Death Knights have been spoon-fed is that Haste is no good for us. It's only un necessary for Blood spec. For Frost, it will help KM proc a lot more and for Unholy, it will help BCB proc a lot more.

km is 5 ppm now. and with a slow 2h weapon you are looking at ~30% activation rate per hit. assuming 100% hit (you should be capped anyways).

Consider 25% haste, and you are close to 6.7 ppm i think, maybe more. either way i broke 3k on my 2hfrost dps spec which is something i was not able to do before the KM change + frost strike glyph.
