Rogue Question?Follow

#1 Jan 21 2009 at 9:07 AM Rating: Default
Hey everyone. Been working on rogue really hard and got level 40 in a few days. Just want know if my weapons and build are good so far. Only thing is I don't use reposte very much...if at all. I know after reading its good for leveling but for some reason I kill them before I get to use it or use it to finish them off as an extra attack but very very few times. Here's my armory. I've read the sticky and says to try Mut once you get to outlands. What about sub. What is its usefullness while leveling. I see very few sub rogues. Lots and lots of Assasination rogues and some combat rogues. I'll be hitting 50 in a few days and I'm running instances. What are the best instances for a 40 rogue?

Last question. Is the speed of my offhand to slow. I'm a solo rogue just questing on a normal server right now. Wanting to get the best out of my rogue. So if I've annoyed any of you to the point of kicking me down a hill laughing I appolagize. Just do not want to mess up. Right now there aren't any really good weapons on the AH so I've had myself in lfg for a few dungeons hoping to score a decent main or offhand that will increase my total dps. Thanks to those who reply.

First I personally don't see why you have 31 points in Combat and don't have Adrenaline Rush. that alone will speed up your leveling a lot. I personally didn't grab ripostle as I was leveling(I didn't even take deflection), but that was just me. The leveling builds in the stickies are normally just peronal preferences.

Leveling as mutilate will be a lot more faster(imo) when you get two good daggers. You just stunlock your way to 80 and don't really have to worry about getting damaged that much. I wouldn't worry about going into instances and getting gear because you will out level it and replace it with quest rewards when you hit the outlands/northrend.

Sub isn't really that great for leveling at all. You miss out on some key abilities that make your damage higher that are in Assasination/combat. Level how you want though. After all it is a game and should be fun.

Not to familair with stun locking. Only tree I've ever played is combat. Do I just go to Mut then move to another tree or go with 51 in Assasination?

There are only two swords I would really worry about getting. Aside from that, just quest quest quest until you hit northrend.

Reply to your other post: Stun locking means opening with cheap shot, followed by a kidney shot (using your combo points) to keep the target stunned...hence they can't damage you. Sap...cheapshot...blind on 3 mob pulls and you'll be fine. You'll want 5 points in dual wield spec...it's 50% extra damage from your offhand. And eventually into precision, for leveling.

So basicly put first 5 into DW spec. What should my Assassination tree look like at my current level of 40. I know combat not Assassination. :D

IMO you should actually level combat until you get to level 50 and can get mutilate. Combat has more "level friendly" abilities at lower levels. After you get to mutilate, I would suggest you go into combat for DW, Precision, and 3 points in CQC. Then put points into sub until you hit 80. Your last 3 points should go into serrated blades and the first five in sub should go into Relentless Strikes.

This is accurate. I would also note that mutilate is better for leveling in Northrend than combat is. Combat and Mutilate differ in that combat requires a big "wind-up" before it starts doing serious damage, which can then be sustained. Mutilate, on the other hand, unloads a massive amount of damage up front, but then there is downtime between bursts of damage. While questing, you should be able to kill most mobs before this downtime is prohibitive.

Questing using subtelty is fine, in my opinion - once you're able to invest enough points in it and have become skilled in picking apart multiple mobs. I ran all my island dailies as Shadowstep and never had a problem. The advantages are speed and mobility, as well as being able to reset all major cooldowns when necessary. You can use two-evasion to tank some weaker elite mobs as well.

Use Sap and Blind religiously. Learn to break apart patrols by using Distract.

And focusing on gear while leveling is an investment in time that I think could better be spent maximizing experience per hour. Most things will quickly be replaced.

Eon you just answered a question that has prolonged in myself and a friends mind. Thanks so much for explaining how combat takes time to build up to damage. No wonder my friends health would drop so low. She's level 80 and still has problems with her health dropping while grinding in icecrown ect. I'm going to have her try a mut spec immediately. Does the mut spec in the stickie still stand now that the patch is out or is there another end game build that experienced mut rogues are using. Mind you her hit rating is only like 145 and ran her first northrend instance today. Ungark or what ever it was ><.

I didn't ask her what she was hitting. My rogue is only level 40 and I'm sword specced combat. Gonna try a mut spec at 50. I won't ask for build advice until I'm there. I'll look it up. :D Thanks for the replies

I suggest two different builds for questing/grinding and instancing. While in dungeons, your job is to push for as much damage as possible, but while questing/leveling, you benefit from talents that are built purely for convenience. For questing, I like this:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=f0ecoexoi0sczZ0xV0xZebf

It is not optimal for DPS, but I feel more comfortable with the increase to stealth level and stealth speed, and the long range sap.

For dungeons, the cookie-cutter mutilate spec is:

edit: I'd like to mention that it's imperative to limit your grinding to one mob at a time while specced for mutilate. Anything beyond that will likely force you to take some noteable damage.

I play a frost mage rarely and they are aoe gods but for some reason i still focus on one mob at a time. >< So that is not a problem and I love stealth. A friend watched me as I stealthed before each fight while questing in desolace. He was like if you like stealth so much why not go assasination. I just laughed

Not really they're about the same. If you're going dagger/dagger combat you'll be lower. I base on what weapons a player wants to use and has access to. dagger/dagger? Go mut. Fist/dagger? Go combat. Sword/sword? Go combat.

I have no problem leveling with combat. Little to no down time and I have some nice aoe abilities that drops groups of mobs like flies at a zapper convention.

If you're getting hit then you're not stunning enough.

I don't see many sub builds anymore like I used to even before BC came to pass. I had always been curious about it but never really tried it. Not sure I ever will. At 70 in Northrend I'll try Mut. If its not what I expect then I'll go back to combat but using fist/dagger.
