Replacing gear questionFollow

#1 Jan 13 2009 at 6:00 AM Rating: Decent
Hey everyone. Just a quick question. I'm starting outlands today with my DK. I'm a soloist in a normal realm. Just leveling right now. When I start replacing gear do I replace it with AP gear or stick with Crit and Hit rating. I know str and stam are the main stats. Thanks to those who reply.

for dps dk
build up hit to approach the cap > str > crit > ap
or something like that

str will do more than AP will, since through talents 1 str gives you more than 2 ap, 1/4 parry rating, and some win :X

stamina is not a main stat for dps.

Thank you very much for the reply. :D Right now working on profs so when I hit outlands I can skin and mine at my own free will and not worry about that red message that says your not high enough.

Order of preference (assuming you're not capped: Hit > Expertise > Str > AP > Crit > else. At least as far as I am aware.

you are just getting to outlands. I assume that you're L58-60. Don't worry about getting hit capped now - you'll need it when you get to 80, but dropping AP for hit at your level is just plain stupid. For leveling gear, you'll want +STR>+AP>+Crit. Wait on +Hit until you're running against boss mobs on a regular basis.

Here is what you don't want: anything with spellpower, intellect or Mp5. It sounds obvious but there are a lot of quest rewards with these on them and I saw DK's wearing them thinking since these were outland quest rewards that they would be better then the gear they picked up in the starter quests. It's not. What I would go for is strength then an equal mix of hit and crit. Burst damage from crit is great and hit lets you pick fights with mobs three or four levels higher than you (and there are plenty of those in Hellfire). One last thing to note, I was still wearing a couple of starting blues when I hit Northrend at 68, so you may not replace everything while in Outland. Just take upgrades when you find tham and don't bother too much hunting for them on the AH.

Hit isn't just good for bosses.

I can't look up the stat weights I use from the office, but I can say that using the mod "Pawn" is quite helpful for making quick gear decisions while leveling. I have my own weights loaded, but the default ones may be fine for all I know.

I know, but after you get a couple of levels under your belt, you won't be finding many mobs that are higher than you as you level up. You'll probably be bypassing all the TBC instances altogether on your way to 80. Go for hit only if you absolutely insist on going after mobs that are higher than you - but that's an option and not a necessity.

edit: I'm not saying that +hit is a bad thing. Just that it isn't a priority when you are leveling. If you get +hit items, that's fine and dandy- don't turn them down. But if you find +STR that really ups your AP, go for that instead, until you get close to the level cap. Start concentrating on +hit around L77-78.
