I'm building an off-spec set. It's not perfect - I have some non-plate gear, but hey, that's what an offset is right?

What should be my target for INT for 80 instances and Regular/Heroic?

I currently have 1100 Spell Power, but my INT is only like 375. I have a mage, so that seems VERY weak. (Granted - I'm still spec'd Prot and have none of the Spec bonuses of being a healer.)

I can't give a definitive answer, however my 77 holy paladin in almost all level 70 merciless (which is generally lower on the intellect than other paladin pieces, esp later in the game) has roughly 615 intellect. That's after my 15% increase in intellect from holy talents.

The Northrend stuff and especially the toys at level 80 seem to have significantly more intellect than what I have.

Although that's my input, I'll differ to someone who can give you actual solid numbers.

I don't really remember what I had when I started healing, but right now I have 1020 unbuffed int and 1920 spell power.

To start heroics you want around 1400 spell power and whatever int that comes on that gear. As long as it's not the crafted plate junk with 0 int you should be fine.

Gem and enchant your healing set with whatever int/SP you can find, pots that buff it up will also help. Alot of it is about increasing you mana pool for those times you do heal. But like Ehcks said, around 1400 sp min for heroics, mana pool roughly 15k. Get you a good healing mace(the one in H-Nexus with int would be perfect) and sheild to switch out to.

You can't have too much Int. Stack it.

From the EJ Holy Paladin forum:

Intellect has received a HUGE boost with WotLK mechanics, and is now the best stat for Holy Paladins by far. Let me list what 100 Intellect gives you:

* 126.5 Intellect, with BoK and Divine Intellect
* 1897 Mana at the start of the fight
* 39.5mp5 from Divine Plea, if its used on CD.
* 21.3mp5 from Replenishment, with 90% uptime.
* 4.7mp5 from Arcane Torrent, if you are a Blood Elf.
* 25.3 Spell Power
* 0.759% Spell Crit

This gives you a lot of mana, which lets you cast a lot more Holy Lights and be more liberal in using them. If you stack this stat you will be able to spam Holy Light during most fights.

So back to your question. You're specced Prot. Someone could probably do the math to figure what stats you would have if specced Holy, but I'm not sure it would be a productive use of time. To heal heroics I think you need a minimum of 1400 SP and that would require an empathetic tank and lots of cc. The best shorthand way to do it would be to stack Int while you shoot for 1400 SP.

And don't worry about not wearing plate. At one point I was in Naxx with six pieces of mostly mail and some leather, and the rest plate. The mail and leather I was seeing had better stats than the plate I was seeing. Go for the best stats. At one point I even had a blue in the leg slot that was kilt - took a lot of ribbing for wearing a dress.

Here is roughly what you want to target (unbuffed):

1250 spell power (will get you just above 1400 once you are Holy spec'd)
700 Int (will get you to roughly 15k mana pool once you are Holy spec'd)
10% crit (will get you to 20% Holy crit once you are Holy/Ret spec'd).

For running heroics, you'll want to spec Kings, so you'll be sacrificing 3% crit from the Ret tree. Of course, if you have a static group with another Pally that has Kings, then you can get 3% more crit - which means you only need to target 7% crit :)

Hope that helps.

You can also check out the Holy Guide FAQ. There is a list of items there to try and get. It includes some non-plate pieces too :)

SP you want 1500+ for most heroics, I was 1400 SP in my lvl 70 epics and I struggled but then the tanks were just as badly geared.

I have 1282 Intellect with Kings. 16k mana is good to start, by the time you have 20k you should be comfortable with anything.
