How about a small leveling guide, showing where to put talent points? I am level 20, spec 0/0/0.

Yeah, shamans have drawbacks and so does nearly every other class. Hunters can ***** up an instance with their pet. A loc or priest can fear when they shouldn't and send a mob into a group and the list goes on.

You're also a mana user like a loc, priest, paladin, hunter, druid and mage. You're going to burn mana like heck when you're fighting and when you heal and when you drop totems. So you're gonna have to drink between fights - so what.

It's pretty much easiest to level as enhancement, but the lower tiers for enhance do suck. A lot.

Here is a sample build of what you might want to have at 20 Level 20 talents

I would get imp GW so you will have an easier time grinding, and running away when you have to. Focus will save you lots of mana as you level, get it asap.

After level 20, I would then keep pumping points into thundering strikes, 2 throwaway points into enhancing totems, then pump up flurry.

At level 30 grab spirit weapons, 3/3 elemental weapons, 1 throwaway point in imp LS, 5/5 weapon mastery, and get Stormstrike at 40.

After 40, Duel wield, 3/3 mental quickness, 3/3 DW spec, 2 Unleashed rage, then grab SR at 50.

Then continue pumping up Unleashed Rage to 5/5. After 44 points in enhance, you can dump the rest into resto towards natures guidance, or go elemental for more shock damage.

Do you think you can add something about professions. just for some of my own input i really like engineering and mining. The bombs from engineering definitely help because they stun, one of the main weaknesses of a shaman. also, the trinkets are very useful and fill a few voids that exist in the shaman class

I think professions really depend on what you want to do.

Make money? - Mining and Skinning

Raiding? Alchy/Enchanting?

PvP? Engineering helps here, the goggles are nice.

Make gear for while leveling? Skinning + LW you can get some decent armor pieces until 40, then you can learn to make mail items.

I know LW was nice at first but loses its value overtime, nice way to boost your gear at first (specialy for ele) but with so many welfare epics it is kind of meh at this point.

I would say best profession to have for end game is probably between alchemy, jewel crafting and engineering since they provide very high quality items late game for all specs (arguably for all classes). Black smithing is another nice one for enhancement but not nearly as universal as the others, but with the pvp items and the badge items even these seem to be less valuable. Those fist weapons for a grand total of 150 badges are pretty amazing and getting that in 2 weeks of work is not difficult (one week possible with out too much trouble but 2 weeks is a bit less trouble).

I would say if you want a quick boost at 70 go for Leather Working or Black Smithing as they can really increase the quality of your gear depending on specs rather quick, but if you want better late game experience go with engineering (very powerful helms for each spec) or alchemy /jewel crafting (great trinkets).

I also forgot to mention leather working provides drums which are very helpful, but I still wouldn't hold them quite as high as the others I mentioned.

If I get some free-time I'll try. Unfortunately I no longer play the class so it's hard for me to theorize and/or even attempt to tell you how to play let alone how to use the new class abilities.

From my current outsiders view, Elemental seems like the DPS spec to-be at the moment, Enhance looks good but not great and Resto seems to finally be doing well in the Arena (wish Riptide was around when I was there).

The Agility->AP change was expected to homogenize your gear with Hunters, but which stats are most important now is foreign to me. If someone wants to catch me up through a PM or whatever I can update it, but without being able to actually play with talents or the class itself makes it super difficult.

Even this layout I made looks pretty bad now lol, maybe someday.

A short BOA suggestion article might be interesting. A lot of people on my server wonder about which BOA's are good for shaman elveling
