So Questions about returning...just when I thought I was outFollow

FFXV makes me itch to play this game again

I haven't played since i90 was the best in slot (I actually played until just after they raised it past that when Coil 6-10 was released)
I realize that puts me forever behind

So my questions are the following

1- Am I too far behind to catch up or would I be better off restarting from scratch

2- Are there solo houses yet?

3- Last I heard was that there was terrible grinding to do for relic weapons, is that still the case or do I have to worry about it?

4- I likely won't know anyone are there still friendly linkshells out there

5- Is the PS4 version good?

Thank you for your time

1. Nope, never too hard to catch up (which some argue is a weakness).

2. No, not solo houses. However, you can get your own apartment room now, which is roughly the size of a small house's main floor but without the basement (and no yard, obviously). I actually sold my house to a FC mate and got an apartment instead. Waaaaaay cheaper and more than enough space for me, considering I don't craft or collect furnishings.

3. The relic weapon chain is still grindy, but now you can do Palace of the Dead and get a weapon that's just slightly weaker. People are split on PoTD, but I think it's fun, plus you can get seals that will help you catch up.

4. Find a free company, not a linkshell... but yes, many. Look me up if you're on Hyperion.

5. Yes, the PS4 version is great! I mostly play on PC, but I enjoy playing on the PS4 now and then.

Thanks Thayos

unfortunately I am on Sargantis or whatever.

Is crafting still a valid way to make gear? I love crafting...I may be weird.

Some of the content I found fun before were Crystal Tower, Random Dungeons and Fates are these still what most people do?

Has this Ishgard place become like Jeuno in FFXI?

Well except for all the solo houses. If you can buy the plot of land you can build a personal house for yourself. It's expensive, but it exists.

Very few people do FATEs for leveling anymore, not really super efficient. The CT raids are outdated but people do still do them (expect long queue times) for various reasons. Dungeons are common as ever.

SE is offering a 96 hour free login campaign until the beginning of the new year. My recommendation would be to log in and see what's up. Don't worry about the specifics right now because your information on endgame is pretty outdated. You have quite a bit of story ahead of you including a bunch of new dungeons and primals to do.

Well, duh!

I was being honest though, because let's face it -- he won't find a solo house for sale, especially not on a Legacy server.

You should check the game out right now. Welcome back campaign is on until January 4th, you can basically play the game for free over a 96 hour period. You shouldn't have any issue finding anyone on that server, one of the more populated legacy servers.

Catching up is easy, but that's a WHOLE lotta content you gotta get through. Won't be hard, but can get tedious and time consuming.

and crap, just noticed Calli mentioned the campaign, that's what I get for skimming.

I just re-downloaded it on PS4 last night...I don't have Heavensward yet. Can I get started getting quests done up until HW and levelling from 50-60 without it or should I just get it now.

I don't want to rush or skip content

Last question I promise (I'm likely lying though)

Is there more class stories? I found the Dragoon story was my favourite part of the game so far (I rewatched all the story up until I left on youtube)

You lose out on exp gains at level 50 but pretty much nothing else. To do any actual Heavensward content you have to complete the ARR story through 2.55.

Yes, each job gets 6 more storyline quests between 50 and 60.

If you hit 50 and still intend on playing I'd buy Heavensward that way you can gain XP (you can't level beyond 50 without it) while doing the story quests that lead into the expansion. That'll easily net you 2 levels and spare you from some grind as the HW story quests won't be enough to take you to 60.

Ok so I'll download Heavensward tonight....I just didn't want to risk spoilers

Thank you all for replying and helping catch me up on stuff. I'm sure when I return tmrw night (first time I will have open to play) I will have a ton more questions but for now I will just leave it with these last few (lol)

1- Have the crafting levels changed, when I left I had them all at 50 will I have to raise them all now as well?

2- I've read that the ilevel is 270 now ....I was i90 when I left will the quests just hand out crappy gear that will keep me moving until I hit cap or do I have to work on gear grabbing before I can continue?

3- Are these apartments you have spoken of customizable?

I love me some FFsims

They went up to 60-cap with everything else.

You'll be fine at i90 for finishing the ARR story. You'll do dungeons along the way that'll give you gear and earn tomestones of poetics that you can use to buy i120 gear as you go. The leveling between 50 and 60 as well as intervening dungeons will gradually increase your item level too. Basically don't worry about it until you're 60. You'll be fine.

Sure, you can decorate them just as if they were houses. Obviously you have no outdoor furnishings though.

So I returned last night on PS4, obviously still getting used to the controls (game looks fantastic on PS4 as good as my PC (my pc is old)

I'm on the MSQ Lord of the Whorl which apparently means I need to fight Leviathan ....I'm so not ready for a real fight so I'm gated until I re-learn how to play the game. lol

I also am on another instanced fight in a quest against Gilgamesh

I'm going to get stuck every 3-4 quests having to do an instance that requires others aren't I??? lol

Quite honestly at this point of the game any ARR trial is pretty much steamrolled through even through the duty finder unless you somehow end up with every one being a fresh level 50 lol. The main thing you'd have to do is just learn the dance steps of the particular encounter, the gameplay itself is fairly easy to pick up or re-learn until you hit heavensward which you have to relearn again anyway.

So you'll definitely get stuck depending - some you can solo low man if you're high enough level (there's an 'undersized party' option) or you can try setting up a party finder to do it the same way.

No, and I wouldn't if I were you. The end result is an i135 weapon which sounds nice until you realize that dungeons around level 55-57 drop better gear than that. Not worth the effort unless you want it for glamour, but then you just do it later when you have nothing better to spend your time on.

UPDATE:

So I'm back and LOVING the main scenario quests (although I want Hildebrand quests removed from existence). Currently have just (SPOILERS) had my blessing from Hydaluen removed and now Midgodsomer (sp) is following me around. What the???

Just wanted to update everyone who helped in this thread that I am loving it.

Do have a few additional questions if anyone has the time:

1) How do I level crafting from 50-60? There are no level 50 leves for me in Gridania, do I have to wait till I get to Heavensward content before I can level crafting? I have already leveled up once as a Dragoon.

2) Seriously when do the Hildebrand quests end? They just don't add anything for me (I'm sure some people love them) I just can't leave them undone though ...I'm that guy.

That is it for now I think...

No, that cap raises with everything else. As for HW leves, you'd have to wait until you're in HW content to actually get those assigned to you. In the mean time feel free to do your GC turn-ins every day for basically-free crafting exp. And of course, you can always level it the old fashioned way.

There were Hildebrand quests throughout the entirety of ARR's patch line, so there are quite a few of them. Honestly you really can just leave them there if you don't like the story. There isn't another point to doing them anymore (you used to have to do them to get the trial roulette unlocked, but it doesn't work like that anymore).

Glad you're enjoying the game. You have some great story ahead of you.

Glad you are enjoying the story! It's a real strength of this game. It got a bit grindy right around where you're at, so if you're enjoying yourself now then you'll LOVE pretty much everything from here on out. The Heavensward story is excellent.

It gets better??? I have loved the story so far...and I love how they keep adding levels too it but then moving on to something else before returning to conclude other parts.

Example: I get warned about Telegi Adelegi but that plot line is still up in the air, but I know he is bad. While I'm on that I get pulled away to deal with Shiva but the whole time there is the Ascian problem and Ivy lingering around.

It is quite gripping...to think it gets better ...oh boy.

More Q's

You guys are great sports by the way...I truly appreciate it

I've been doing a lot of quests that end with me doing hardmode dungeons and they have been a breeze, but I was wondering about Coil?

I see it in DF but not sure if I can try to do that is it PUGable now? I just want to do it once to see the story (its not the same to youtube it)

Your best bet to doing coil is find a good FC and run it with undersized groups. It's still quite difficult if you go in with a properly capped party, and it will never really get easier because of how the game's toughest content leans so heavily on rapid and ultra-punishing mechanics.

No need to Youtube it... just find a good FC. I'd get you into mine if you were on Hyperion.

Hm..it depends on the server cluster (Data center) you're attached to but Coil I noticed at least on Aether Datacenter is largely dead outside of Party Finder, so keep an eye on those since people run some of them for the wonderous tails objectives. You can try to duty finder it but be prepared for some long waits some days. So to answer your question, it's always been PUGable, it was added to the Duty Finder a long long time ago though.

Quote:

And so you don't get the wrong idea based on this sentence, there's more mechanics that happen in content like Binding Coils and Ex Primals that you'll not be used to at first as they're more group focused at times (for example needing to stack to absorb a big hit) if so far your experience have been the Hard Mode dungeons/Storyline Dungeons and at best Hard Mode primals.
