I love FFXIV and have been playing it since day one.
I have Best disease (Best's vitelliform macular dystrophy) Best causes problems with my central vision. I was starting to have trouble with seeing buffs, debuffs, casting bars, and ground markers.

I recently hit the fifth and final stage of Best with the addition to color blindness. I was starting to feel that the game I love so much was getting impossible for me to enjoy. I tried lots of things like making my UI elements very large, turning up the sound effects, memorizing fights so I could anticipate better, anything that would help me keep doing the thing I love the most.

Then I stumbled upon a youtube video of the Over Lay Lines app (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6HkqRFDQOs). It is an FFXIV app that enables you to have visual and audio cues that you can customize to your own needs. In my case huge letters and loud sounds :)
the website is http://overleylines.com

I just want to put it out there maybe there are more people who are in a comparable situation as me. This is a life saver for me.

Don't let anything stop you with doing the things you love, there is always a way!

Hi Cascandra.

I'm Raeburn from Over Ley Lines. When we launched Over Ley Lines last year we got a lot of hate. There were accusations of stolen code, doubts and fears from console players, and general vitriol from the hate bandwagon. We don't get a lot of encouragement.

Lenix and I got a little teary reading this. We wanted Over Ley Lines to help enhance people's play experiences. Reading that Over Ley Lines enables you to continue playing is an honor and we'll do our best to keep it running as long as possible.

We'll continue to do what we love by supporting Over Ley Lines.

Best wishes,

Lenix and Raeburn from Over Ley Lines

It has been helpful for some and I can understand why there was some hate for it, as I recall seeing on reddit some of it because some of the features showcased seemed on the side of....something SE would hate.

I know it's helped a friend of mine before but unlike FFXI and some other MMOs, the playerbase is extremely protective of this game so yeah sadly you'll get hate pretty easily.

From what I'm seeing, it looks like DBM with some ... verbose ... audio warnings. Does it do other things?

I ask because all DBM really is, is a bunch of stopwatches and post-in notes written for every encounter. While you can argue the merits of such a thing, somehow WoW has survived and still has solid raiding despite DBM existing.

Thank you, Raeburn and Lenix for your kind words.
To be perfectly honest I was hesitant to share my story, I keep it to myself and do not talk about it in-game.

But I felt that it helped me so much and enabled me to keep playing that I needed to share it.
I initially made my post on Reddit but for some reason, my post got removed right away.

This made me insecure and hesitant but after some thought, I decided to still share my story and to never visit that site again.

May grace and blessings be in your path.

It is always nice to hear stories like this as disability and accessibility support been always be somewhat limited for video games. I did not know about the Best condition until today, and it looks like it will affect many things in the quality of life.

If anything, I think it will be fascinating idea that someone raises accessibility issues in a corporate panel in future gaming convention and event. I have not been to any gaming or anime event for a very long time (sometimes I feel I am getting too old for that kind of thing), but I am pondering to go to the European FFXIV fanfest. If I go, I am sure to put in a question about this.
