Relevant or not it doesn't change the fact that Soken blatantly ripped it off. Within seconds I was like "this sounds exactly like that Powerman 5000 song", and only a day after the patch a ton of other people touched on it too. I guess not everyone played Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, lol
In the end I don't think it's a big deal anyway. I think Soken's stuff is lame though, bring back Uematsu, SE.
And that bias is exactly why you think it's a ripoff.
Before they even made a post about it, I called out exactly why Sephriot's theme was Industrial Rock to my GF and FC. And honestly, attributing it to Powerman 5000, who's very band was a cheap ripoff of his older brother's band, as oppose to Ramnstein, NIN, and other famous work is really shallow minded. There's litterally one repeated cord progression that could be mistaken for World's Collide. That's it. The voice actually could be mistaken for a lot of other Industrial rock vocalist. Heck, even KMFDM did the raspy thing on some of their not-so-famous songs.
So yes, calling it a ripoff is a shallow, BS claim. PWM5K made a dumb comment to gripe about it, and that's about where it ends, really. If you REALLY want to analyze just how similar or different the song is, too late.
It's already been done. Guess what the professional musician who's also a fan of PWM5K had to say?
