So my friend and I participated in the Recruit-a-Friend program before and received our items, but now they have newer items and new emotes like "brofist"
Do I need to recruit ANOTHER person to the game for the newer features or will I receive them, the official page wasn't clear about this.

Not sure yet. I just recruited someone and I haven't gotten the new stuff. They said July, and there's a patch tonight so possibly tonight? Or the release of Savage Alexander.
You're supposed to get some extra Feathers for every month he/she subscribes. Or atleast every few months? I dont recall how much exactly.
So in order to get the goodies, you can either;
- Recruit a bunch of friends
or
- Have previous friend stay subscribed for a few more months

Word on the official forums is that the first rewards will be issued on July 30th.
I got my rewards in my delivery box right after I resubscribed (and after inputting my RAF code beforehand) last week. I got the the headpiece with EXP+, 100 tickets for free teleports, and some minion toys. Only thing I'm wating on are the Chocobo Feathers.

But Wait! - Do Not Subscribe/Buy Time Yet! If you do you will not be able to enter the referral code.

also if you have previously done the recruit a friend it is retroactive so you get all the new rewards as well.
