This language quest teaches you the Koada'Dal Language, which is required to complete the Wrapping it All Up quest. The quest is initiated by examining a rock during the Wrapping it all UP quset. That rock is at +2000, -537 but it will only start this quest if you are on the Wrapping it all Up quest.
The first step of knowledge of the past is to find information on the langauge within the Tower of the Moon in Maj'Dul. This is obtained by clicking on a book on the second floor (+0.63, +15.02, +17.44).
After this you must head back to the Silent City and kill tomes and then zombies for an auto-update from each.

Damodred, you're missinformed.
This is how it works. You get the quest "Wrapping it all up" you go to the Rock of Edonis and you examine the rock. It says you do not know this language and it then gives you the quest "Knowledge of the Past". THEN you must go to the Tower of the Moon in Maj'Dul and click on the book on the 2nd floor.

to Re-Clarify - You do Not get this quest by clicking the rock. If you don't have the quest then you can not get the final quest but must to go get the this quest.
I m quessing one has to go to the tower of moon to on 2nd floor for dark side toons. I went to qeynos and they would not sell to me as dark side toon. Therefore Good side toons get it a lil easier which is kind of unfair but ce le vie. Damo

To clarify: you receive this quest if you click the Rock of Eldonis (Pillars of Flame, underwater around +1996, -265, -540, far west side of map) and you do not already speak this language.

For the Tomes, it would seem you need one of each type: Coersion, Combat Arts, Evasion, Wizardry, Medicine.

Please Please Please change the starting zone on this quest from silent city to Pillars of flame. I would not want anyone to go through what I just went through trying to find this loc in Silent City with just happens to be in the epic part of the zone and just out of reach.

Once in the Tower of the Moon, you must click a book on the second floor, and your quest will update and send you to the Halls of Learning in Silent City. There, you must kill tomes to get auto-updates, then kill zombies for more auto-updates. Upon killing the last zombie, you learn the language

I was unable to find the secrets of the Koada'Dal tongue within The Tower of the Moon. I did however find mention of an older repository of knowledge within the Silent City.
I must gather pages from the nearby tomes to learn their knowledge.
I must eat the brains of the dead in order to acquire their ancient knowledge. Only the mummies would be preserved well enough to be of use in this endeavor.
Distasteful as this activity has been it has enabled me to acquire the knowledge that I sought.I was able to learn Koada'Dal using forbidden rituals to gain the knowledge of the dead.
