This quest is initiated by examining "A Small Bronze Key With A Strange Handle". This key is confirmed to drop on rats and gnolls in Antonica.
Once you have triggered the quest you may click on the cellar door behind lighthouse in Antonica (at 345,-8,830 ) to be taken in to a special instanced area called The Buccaneer's Rest. There are named mobs in the cellar which will drop some nice loot for you.
If you leave the instanced zone you must find another key to re-enter.

I found a key that has the head of a skull and crossed swords. This brass key is covered in rust, green tarnish and salt can be seen in the pits on the key.
The key fit into the lock of the lighthouse cellar, I used it and entered.I used the key to open the cellar behind the lighthouse in Antonica and enter it.
Stage 1
I need to find out what lighthouse this key goes to. The trek maybe dangerous, so I should take other hearty adventurers with me. Don't get your hopes up if killing named mobs floats your boat. I have done this twice and no named mobs were present. Oh well...

I tried to solo it at lvl 20 monk and got my butt handed to me. The groups are just too large for a solo to handle.
hmmm . I'm a returning player - level 69 - and I was picking up some very trivial quests ('cos I get a kick of having a high quest count) and I got this key in a chest on a darkfur gnoll (level 12) - since when do chests drop on very grey mobs? I also picked up a Far seas requisition I didn't have previously in a chest on a gnoll runt (level 7).
It was within the last few patches that they made quest starters drop on even grey mobs from chests.

Can the key still drop for you if you're high enough level that the mobs are greyed out?
As long as it's a body drop and not a chest drop which in this case I believe it's a body drop. :)

I just got the key from, a sparrow-hawk. right outside the north Q gate next to the acuduct

We have been getting the key drops off of the Dankfurs on the islands behind Lighthouse. The ones you need for the Poet quest.

This quest may have a level cap to get the reward. I just did it with one other person in my group. We were both level 19 and there were no drops beyond the human bone or skull.

It now looks like u dont need 3 and above players to enter. I just ot in with 2 players and the bad news is, the named boss didnt drop a thing;;;

I was correct. The skull and crossbones handled brass key is the exact key that will gain you enterance to the basement in the Cold Point Lighthouse. On the basement door's lock is the same skull and crossbones.

The key dropped from "a Darkpaw Mystic" in ANT1 for me. Maybe not coming from rats anymore.

Anyone able to get this quest anymore? Been killing rats non-stop for about a week on Tox, and no dice, not one key. Lvl 11 Bard.

I have a brass key, when i examine it, it says... it has a skull and crossed swords. is this the same key?

We did this with a group of 4, avg lvl 13. The first time you enter and clean out the area, there are lower level mobs and a few ok drops. The second time you enter, named mobs appear and better drops happen.

Strange, got the key, go to the cellar, but can't enter... any suggestion ?

Weird ... I don't get an instance place at all. I got the strong box with orders. Are there more then one brass key? Or am I missing something?

Did this about 7 times last night in the Cellar. Great exp at level 12 and alot of fun. We spawned one named "First mate ....something" and he dropped Darkwater Long Bow or something like that. Of all the times we entered, one named was up. About a total of 18 plus or minus mobs in the zone.

Currently bugged on my server.
Allows key to be used multiple times so you can gain great xp at the expence of exploiting and loosing your character.
Found more loot in beta than i did in release though so i think its deffo bugged

This quest yelded nothing,and gave no exp either at lv15.

no actual reward for the quest just decent drops inside. Alot like ldon. Word of advice "dont move" you will understand when you get in there.
