I've procured what appears to be the spine, or at least a bony object resembling a spine, off of a soul parasite's corpse. It appears to be shaped much like a staff, and I believe it could be made to function as such with a little work.
I've completed the Spinestaff!I've gathered all of the necessary components and integrated them into the spine resulting in the Spinestaff.
Stage 1
I need to gather the various ingredients and combine them with the spine to complete the staff.| Start: | I need to kill albino cave snakes and gather unmarred swathes of white snakeskin. |

This quest is initiated by examining the spine of a soul parasite. This item is dropped on Soul Parasites in the Tombs of Night. You must kill the following monsters in the Tombs of Night:
- Collect 4 items from Snakes
- Collect 3 items from Mist Grinnin Herbalists
- Kill The Explorer, a rare spawn in the "Tombs of Night" -84.34, 7.38, 33.25
- Kill the Obdurate Parasite, a rare spawn at -14.31, -25.64, -43.01 (he has also been reported at -64.86, -24.69, -56.13 ). Soul Parasites are his placeholders

The Obdurate Parasite spawned at -67.67, -24.73, -58.88 after I killed all the parasites in the main location mentioned. I had killed all of them there after my sixth zone in, was about to leave in super frustration, made a wrong turn and found it! Phew.
Like someone else who posted, I had to zone and rezone and got the last mob I needed when I zoned in for the 4th time.

I did not have to do anything with a mob called "The Explorer" for this quest. The steps went snakes, herbalists, then the named parasite.
To get the named parasite to spawn, I cleared out the parasites around -14.31, -25.64, -43.01. It took quite a few times of re-zoning anyways before this triggered the named mob. When the named spawned, it actually spawned at the pit of bones, and moved to the -14, -25, -43 location (which explains the various reports on this).

My Obdurate wasn't in the loc given above. He was over in the bone pit at -64.86, -24.69, -56.13
I'm not sure if he popped there after we killed the PHs at the loc above - we killed those and then went sparkly hunting and stumbled on him.

Took one hour and 37 minutes to do explore and parasite - over an hour of it hunting the explorer. It isn't broken, phew.

Killed all parasites at -12, -25, -36 and got no Obdurate Parasite. Rezoned and tried this 2 more times with no luck, finally got him to spawn on 4th try. So this technique works, but not every time. Keep zoning and killing parasites at the above loc and eventually he will spawn close by at loc -66, -24, -55 (side room).

I can confirm that after killing all the soul parasites in the general vicinity of the posted loc (roughly -10, -26, -46 for me), "an Obdurate Parasite" spawned. It was level 34, 2 arrow heroic. I did not have to keep zoning in and out like I did for the explorer.

I'm on the Obdurate but your information is unclear here.
Does anyone know if he spawns after killing all the soul parasites around the location listed or do I need to keep zoning in and out to get him to pop?

I finally found explorer also but a different location. She was at -84.34 7.38 33.25. The top floor at back of tomb of nights near Dvith N'zur.

Finally found explorer. He was in instance titled "Tombs of Night".. Explorers loc was -86,7,33 when he was up. seems like he is either up when you zone in or you need to re-enter. He was guarded by a named 36^^ with a couple of lackeys. after killing the vamps talk to the explorer who tells you to find the obdurate parasite whos location is correct as posted, but had to kill the flesh draped mages,knights, etc in area to spawn him. The parasite is a single 34 ^^..

Any info on The Explorer is appreciated. What instance is he/she in? Where in the zone? How to get him/her to spawn (if possible)?

Ok I found out that the snakes dont give update messages in retribution or a search for answers instances. I had to zone into the zone myself which was simply just The Tomb of Night and the snakes began autoupdating after I killed them.... However the Explorer I have no idea how to find him.

If the snakes are grey will they still drop the skins? I find plenty of meet and one poison gland but no skins as of yet and am wondering if I'll ever find them. Would hate to waste my time..

Such as what mobs to kill if any, or is he just randomly spawned w/e you zone in.
