Guise of the Deceiver  

Anyone else a gold member (without a dark elf pack) who has found this mask doesn't work?

is it like that for everyone? do i REALLY have to buy the dark elf pack for my item to work?

I myself haven't played EQ1 in about a year, and don't even know if my account is still active. However, I do/did have a guise of the deceiver mask. These comments may have been mentioned, but I thought I'd clarify.

1. It was originally named guise of the deceiver.
2. It could originally be used by all classes.
3. It was nerfed to be bards and rogue only renamed Mask of the Deceiver.
4. It could be used to make rogue epic easier, but was implemented long before that.
5. It is/was available in the casino on EQ1.
6. It applies dark elf illusion. In EQ1, you received a faction modifer based on race. So, if you were a good character, with this mask, you could possibly get into certain evil cities. However, it was a straight modifier SO, the same good person normally welcomed in say, North Freeport or Felwithe had a very good chance of being KOS in that city, because the citizens thought he was a dark elf.

So, it's a fun mask, and makes it a lot easier to do a lot of things. Regardless, it's fun. I understand that a lot of people are upset that it's doesn't maintain the faction value. But, hey. We all get shafted. I'm a priest looking for a 1 handed heritage weapon, but all I see are PGT, SBH, PGT, Ghoulbane, BBC, and etc. I guess I'll have to wait until 42, until I can get the screaming mace.

That'll be cool. I quested that thing so many times on EQ1, lol.

Does this mask actually serve a purpose? I mean can I walk through Freeport when it turns me into a dark elf and not get agroed? Will they sell me things from the city? Can I get quests that I couldn't before? What is the mask for really?

has anyone ever thought of it as a 4agi 150vs magic CHARM if your evil. if you cant use it as a guise, atleast its a charm that give you stats

The Mask of Deception in EQ1 was found on a named Froglok in Lower Guk - coming from an all Bard guild this mask was just one of the many that Bards could use - it had great charisma which bards needed for charming mobs, for humans it gave night vision. Another great illusion was The Lute of the Howler (turned you into a warewolf) and was primary equipable. Making this a common item for all players in EQ2 may not have as much appeal but illusions were fun in EQ1 and very useful

U can sell it to a merhcant for 20 gold, and less then that to a greedy merchant.

in EQ1 the Mask was orignaly call Guise of the Decever , and all classes could use it , about 4 months after the games release it was nerfed and had the name changed to the Mask of deception , and they added the class restictions put on it. this nerf did not effect the masks that where allready in the game .a exclusive batch of very vet player still have the origial masks on there old characters

Yes it was originally called guise of the deceiver... and in eq1 the illusions did help you get into cities you could not normally go into... and i dont know about your sever but the most i ever saw one of these masks(and i think it was the erudite one) sell for was 50k. Dont rant about stuff you dont know the whole story on.

If you notice, it says no trade, so you cannot sell it to other players, only vendors.

LOL, chill out Drantic. For what you have to do in order to get the mask is a lot....so I can understand people complaining about the reward.

The EQ1 Guise changed bards and rogues of specific races into a dark elf. That's why it isnt human.

finished today, and as of 6/18 it is NERFED. all this does is change you to a dark elf. I walked into freeport and got kicked out. IMO this should be changed to a human, cuz they're good OR bad. Then you can walk into either city, so it has advantages both ways. otherwise it's pointless, doesn't even look good in the house, it's in a big box with a lock on it. i wanted an evil looking mask to welcome ppl to my house :(

Etrigan, no it isnt a bug...you got kicked out cuz you had DE illusion on =p

Some illusion can affect your faction to towns. You can roam in Freeport with DE illusion on. Try not to use this in Qeynos. UNLESS SoE nerfed this.

What's the point of this mask? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's basically a petrified dark elf eye that doesn't require a bone. Seems pretty worthless, would be nice if it allowed you to sneak into your rival city.
