Penny Dreadful, a gnomish mathematician, asked me to help her solve some problems before she loses her job. The first problem is figuring out which of three chests actually contains an emergency supply of floozlegigs. The remaining chests contain some nasty creatures. The chests are all labeled, but one of the labels is wrong and Penny doesn't know which one that is.
Stage 1
According to Penny, the three chests are near the ornate tower. I need to take a look at the three chests, read their labels and figure out which one contains the floozlegigs -- without opening them.
Start: | I need to examine the silver-trimmed chest. |
---|
Complete: | I've examined the silver-trimmed chest. |
---|
Start: | I need to examine the gold-colored chest. |
---|
Complete: | I've examined the gold-colored chest. |
---|
Start: | I need to examine the wooden chest. |
---|
Complete: | I've examined the wooden chest. |
---|
I've located the chests and examined their labels.Stage 2
Penny Dreadful will be interested to know which box holds the emergency supply of floozlegigs.
Start: | I need to tell Penny Dreadful what I've concluded about these three boxes and their contents. |
---|
Complete: | I've spoken with Penny Dreadful. |
---|
I've told Penny Dreadful where the floozlegigs are located. After looking at the three boxes, I realized that the box holding the floozlegigs was the silver-trimmed box. Choosing either the wooden or gold box would mean that either all the labels were correct or that they were all incorrect. Since only one of the labels was incorrect, the silver-trimmed box was the only choice.
