Champions Online's Latest Ask Cryptic

Cryptic has released the latest Champions Online Ask Cryptic for April 2011. The Champions Online team answers fan questions such as confirming that crafting tables will be coming to Lemuria and Monster Island.

While there is no solid timeline, the team also confirms that there will be a Nemesis System update/revamp coming as well. Check out the full Q&A after the jump!

The Tempest Archetype is Now Available

Champions Online's Tempest Archetype is now available immediately for Gold Members and in the C-Store for Silver Players. Here's the description of this "shocking" archetype:

"The Tempest has a variety of ranged attacks, many of which are capable of hitting multiple foes. Many of the powers leave your targets electrically charged, setting you up for future attacks against them."

While you're in the C-Store, you can save 20% on your purchase of Character Slots from now until Wednesday, March 30 at 10 a.m. PDT.

Jack Emmert Appointed CEO of Cryptic Studios

According to a press release, Jack Emmert has been appointed CEO of Cryptic Studios following the departure of John Needham. The former CEO left the company to "pursue other opportunities within the game industry."

Emmert, formerly Cryptic's COO, has already begun fulfilling his duties as CEO and is reporting directly to Atari CEO Jim Wilson.

"As a colleague, I am sad to see John go, but our vision remains clear," Emmert said. "Cryptic continues to develop great gaming experiences while ensuring the success of its current projects, Champions Online: Free for All, Star Trek Online and Neverwinter. I co-founded this company and am extremely proud of everything our teams have achieved. We will continue to set high goals for ourselves and under my leadership we will continue to meet them."

Champions Online's "State of the Game" - March!

In this month's "State of the Games" for Champions Online, Producer Rob Overmeyer took to the stage to talk to everyone about everything CO related, including some nifty new costumes, adventure packs, lair reviews, instance revamps, a new framework, and even some hints at bringing about more meaningful endgame content. If you're a Champions Online fan and just itching to hear about what's coming next in the C-Store, then you really should read through Rob's letters. Most players will probably be excited for the new Heavy Weapon set of powers, and if anyone just wants to smash their opponents up, down, and all around, then this new framework might just be for you.

Blood Moon Rises this Weekend in Champions Online

It may be February, but players can pretend it's Halloween when the Blood Moon rises once again in Champions Online this weekend. This spooky periodic event kicks off today, Feb. 25, at 4 p.m. PST and runs through Sun, Feb. 27 at 11:59 p.m. Log in and save the undead heroes from the evil Takofanes or survive as long as you can in the PvP Zombie Apocalypse event.

Get a Free 1-Hour 20% XP Boost in Champions Online

To celebrate the successful launch of Champions Online: Free for All, Cryptic is giving all players a free 1-hour 20% experience boost! All you need to do is head over to the C-Store to claim your present.

According to a Cryptic press release, the free-to-play switch "has drawn hundreds of thousands of players to the virtual world, increasing Champions Online's online concurrent user, unique login and revenue totals by over 1,000 percent!"

The Void Archetype Now Available in C-Store

The latest Champions Online Archetype, The Void, is now available for purchase in the C-Store. Here's the description of The Void:

"The Void connected to a realm of Shadows and Darkness. This connection allows you to channel Dimensional energy to assault your foes, drawing out their fears and draining them of their essence.

The Void has a good selection of mid and long range attacks, both single target and group attacks. You have the ability to lock down and weaken your foes, and can learn to summon creatures of pure Shadow to assist you in combat."

The Void costs 920 Atari Tokens and will be unlocked for every character on an account.

Champions Producer Reflects on Free-to-Play Switch

Following our recent adventure in Champions Online: Free for All, we decided to sit down with Producer Rob Overmeyer to get his thoughts on the free-to-play switch. He talks about the response from the player base and future plans for the game, including the upcoming release of the Devastator Archetype and some new PvP maps.

Spread the Champions Love with Cupid's Arrow

Valentine's Day is over, but there's still time to purchase Cupid's Arrow in Champions Online. Players hit by the arrow gain +5% maximum health and energy for 5 minutes.

Cupid's Arrow was created just for the holiday and is available for this week only in the Cryptic Store. The arrow costs 120 Atari Tokens.

A Fresh Look at Champions Online: Free for All

Fans of superhero MMOs can currently choose between the veteran City of Heroes, the newly released DC Universe Online, and Champions Online. In an attempt to make Champions Online stand apart from the crowd, Cryptic recently made the switch to the free-to-play format. Interested in seeing how the change has revitalized the game, I took the opportunity to dive (or fly, or super jump) into Champions Online.
