I doubt many people planned on seeing it, but if you were, don't bother. It's not Aardman's worst work, but perhaps their most disappointing.

Early Man is a stop motion animation film by the same studio responsible for notable media such as Wallace & Grommit, Chicken Run, Arthur Christmas, and Shaun the Sheep. I bought a ticket based largely on the reputation of their previous works, though reviews weren't bad. However, Early man entirely fails to deliver creativity or inventiveness from a studio known for those attributes. It's simply a bland sport movie, like any other. There's the setup, the the training montage, and the game. There would be more to complain about if there was more to it than that. The humor lands, but the core plot is weak and dull. Any tension in the film is decimated by the absurdity of character motivations. The MC thinks they can win because their ancestors once played the sport, and then is later convinced they will lose because their ancestors lost at the sport.

Here's hoping Isle of Dogs will prove to be the better of the medium.

Must have been nice to be the only person in the theater, though.

I was considering taking the little one to see it, considering how much she loves Wallace & Grommit, but I think it'd be better to hold off.

May be worth a rental.

I think it'd be more entertaining for her than for you, not for the kid movie aspect, but because the weakness of the movie isn't in execution, but lack of originality. I saw Mighty Ducks, Space Jam, and Angels in the Outfield as a kid, so the formula just isn't going to work for me as an adult, but as a kid any of those movies works well the first time, just not the next 6.
